People often ask me: ““What’s the #1 thing that allows product-based entrepreneurs to make that leap from bootstrapped and broke to cash flow positive?” My answer is always the same: Learning how to grow their revenue with scientific precision. So why is it so hard to cross that profit-bridge and start seeing momentum in your cash flow? The answer is simple. You can’t build a brand entirely on intuition and gut-feel. You need to know your numbers. I’ve worked with local start-ups and massive corporate brands like Dove, L’Oreal, Chobani, and Lays. And now, I’m sharing that same magic with you! Tune in to learn how data-driven brand obsession is your ticket to new heights in your business (and your sales!) You’ll hear a mix of my handpicked guest experts, live consulting calls, and my everyday musings based on my many years in the biz. Learn from my mistakes, celebrate my clients’ successes, and get excited for what comes next. The best is yet to come!

Colleen Lindl speaks with people about a trivial detail in their life that as it turns out is not so trivial at all. A few days ago, I read a quote by the late artist Ben Shahn. “I believe that if it were left to artists to choose their own labels, most would choose none.” And this quote reminds me so much of my guest Scott Marvel. Scott is an artist. He’s a husband a Father a Filmmaker. He’s also the president of Daily Planet; a production company based in Chicago with a huge heart and focus on humanitarian projects and he’s the founder of Give A Shirt; a non-profit organization that helps the homeless to get back on their feet. Scott is also a renowned putterer, he has a fascination with the mundane and the seemingly trivial and in today’s story he holds nothing back in exploring the trivial or how the trivial may not seem so trivial at all. Today’s story is really a grandfather grandson story, although quite naturally overflows into a father son story. In this episode, Scott shares with us the story of his Grandpa Rudy’s death when Scott was just six years old and how that one event has shaped his life. In this episode, we are going to talk about death. We’re going to talk about anxiety. We’re going to talk about growing up in the Lutheran Church. We’re going to talk about how our formative years sometimes shape our world view and how sometimes when you’re a son you don’t quite understand your Dad. There are going to be some tangents, but mostly I think they all flow nicely into Scott’s story. A few notes: At some point Scott and I talk about Michael. Michael is my wonderful boyfriend who works with Scott and without whom I wouldn’t have met Scott. So thank you, Michael. Secondly, Scott has three older sisters Penny, Pam, and Susan. Also, Scott is 6’5”, but standing next to him you’d never know it. The man has this amazing ability to feel the same height as you. That’s how disarming he is. Lastly, I mentioned before, Scott is a filmmaker. He has specifically animated a film telling the story of his Grandpa’s death through little characters that look like beans which Scott calls Bean People. Ok that should suffice. Enjoy our conversation. Unlikely Leaders – for iPod/iPhone

    Unlikely Leaders – for iPod/iPhone

    by

    Since Nov 1, 2013 08:41 UTC

What do you imagine when you think of a leader? Is the customary vision of the powerful politician or business leader still entirely relevant today? In these recent times of massive political and economic upheaval, it appears that society’s faith in its traditional leaders is at its lowest ebb: for many they’re no longer a source of support or trust, and as a result people have started looking elsewhere. In this series of short films, Open University experts nominate their own ‘Unlikely Leader,’ from Russell Brand to Olympic boxer Nicola Adams, challenging our assumptions about the meaning of Leadership and encouraging us to think differently about just what makes a ‘great leader’. As conventional leaders continue to let us down, the ‘Unlikely Leaders’ might just be our salvation.
