Shaykh Ibrahim explains how the Treaty at Hudaibiya was a key moment in gaining an upper hand and victory against the weakened Quraysh, and how events at that time sowed the seeds for things that transpired some thirty years later.

    Closer to Fine Podcast

    by

    Since Oct 2, 2021 13:37 UTC

Closer to Fine is a phone call between two wildly different but perfectly matched best friends. Each episode, Mary Katherine Backstrom and Sara Farrell Baker discuss the good, the bad, the really bad, and the things most people have the good sense to keep quiet.

Mary Katherine is an award-winning author and influencer whose first book, Holy Hot Mess, is a National Bestseller. A Southern Christian with a penchant for oversharing, her heartfelt writing and infectious laugh have earned her a loyal fanbase. Known for her viral videos and candid writing on family, faith, and mental illness, MK has been featured on Today, CNN, the New York Times, and Ellen.

Sara is an award-winning writer from the Mid-Atlantic, a podcaster, and an Atheist. Her work has been published in O Magazine and the Huffington Post and she has appeared on Good Morning America. Sara’s audience enjoys her irreverent and absurd, often explicit, self-deprecating sense of humor. She enjoys writing about politics, living with chronic pain and an invisible illness, mental health, and her love of television and movies.

Both on their own mental health journeys, Sara and MK use candor, humor, and their real-life experiences living with mental illness to normalize conversations about the mental health struggles many of us go through. Together, they aim to erase the stigma with anything but silence.

    This Week in Poetry

    This Week in Poetry

    by

    Since Sep 2, 2021 07:16 UTC

This Week in Poetry With Prof.Nedumaran is a podcast series aimed at fostering a passion for poetry through listening to select poems as they are read by an expert.

Poetry is an auditory experience. Words, chosen and arranged by the poet when read aloud come to life lighting up the content the poet has packed in the words and sounds. A good poem brightens up our moments. It gives us the glory and the grief, the ebb and flow of life eventually, helping us understand ourselves and others in a better light. Frost said a poem is a clarification of life; it raises questions, stirs our curiosity, builds imaginary bridges to negotiate doubts and uncertainties.

The podcast presents some of the best moments in the history of civilization. Listening to the best minds can be a very invigorating exercise, energising, entertaining and profoundly illuminating.

Prof. R.Nedumaran with his thirty some years of teaching and living poetry at The American College, Madurai reads poems of his choice from English and Tamil Literatures for your listening pleasure.

“The word / was born in the blood / grew in the dark body, beating / and flew through the lips and the mouth” Pablo Neruda the Latin American poet in his poem, The Word.

Words are a source of life. Reach the source through the sounds. “ The sound makes no sense unless it is heard” Robert Frost.

A poem is always an attempt at clarification of life. A poem is a performance.
Come let’s perform poetry ! Let the sounds of life from the poems we read give us joy and light.

Welcome to This Week in Poetry with Prof.Nedumaran.

    Lolita Podcast

    by

    Since Oct 21, 2020 22:35 UTC

Who is Lolita? The Nabokov literary classic has sparked infinite discussion in the 65 years since its release, but the cultural memory the book has left behind lives more in romance and fashion aesthetics than a cautionary tale about a deceptive predator and his young prey. Jamie Loftus wants to know how we got here, and this series traces Lolita — the person, Dolores Haze — from her literary origin to current status as a doomed icon.
