    The Actor’s Mind

    The Actor’s Mind

    by

    Since May 21, 2018 21:09 UTC

The Actor’s Mind is a new podcast hosted by Kateri McRae and Anne Penner that explores acting from a psychological perspective. We describe and discuss popular acting tools that are commonly used in actor training, rehearsals, and performances. Then we identify the parallel psychological processes that are likely in play when actors use these techniques. We discuss the success of these techniques from our own experience, as well as why they work given the evidence from psychology and neuroscience. Our guests are experts from the theater and science worlds: actors, directors, teachers, and psychological scientists, who add their expertise and experience to the conversation.

    “Watch It Burn”

    “Watch It Burn”

    by

    Since Jan 31, 2009 20:17 UTC

Originally recorded in Iraq in 2006 and later in Fort Campbell, KY and in Eugene, OR in 2007. (I use the url “unbossed” on tumblr.) [itunes pic]
While rooting around in my old Tuff Box, I came across a battered thumb-drive. Wiping off the thin layer of dust (almost certainly from Iraq) revealed “WIB” written on it in Sharpie. Curious, I plugged it into my laptop and found a recording I had thought was gone forever. I don’t know exactly when it was recorded and, as always, I’m not entirely satisfied with the quality, or my awful pronunciation and annunciation (due largely to the lingering sinus problems). It’s not a complete episode, either. I suspect that I didn’t invest much effort into finding it because the content is only really interesting as a novelty. The first portion is simply me reading and commenting on atrocities highlighted in Stars & Stripes. There is then a rather looooong segment in which I talk through a repair on a flight-control pallet. I find it horribly boring, but who knows what you folks might enjoy. Hopefully it will still be interesting to you in some way. The only alterations I have done to the original audio are the omission of a last name and an URL, due to privacy concerns and a request from the individual in question and converting it to stereo. I’m not really a fan of posting something this raw and “rough.” I feel, though, that it still belongs here. So, if for some reason you are under the impression that collecting every episode will win you some kind of prize, feel free to download or just listen. I’m sure its place in the order can be easily determined by comparison of events and the timing of my torturous head cold, but I’m too busy working on putting together the new show. Enjoy, folks. Take care of each other and watch your six. Dave “Godless” Kinser
