The term “influencer” is often applied to brands and social media mavens, but it’s also a word that pertains to visionary edtech leaders. “Ed Influencers,” the new podcast from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), digs into the motivations and aspirations of today’s most prominent education innovators. In each episode, ISTE Chief Learning Officer Joseph South sits down with an edtech leader who’s helping to transform teaching and learning. This podcast can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. We recently visited Steele Mansion in Painesville, Ohio, and asked the proprietor, Carol Shamakian, to describe how she and her family came to own this place. She told us that her husband went to the grocery store one day and came home to say, “Honey, I bought a mansion.”
Unfortunately this once grand home, built in the 1860’s, had been deemed unsalvageable and was slated for demolition. Only the vision of this plucky family could see the possibilities in restoring the home. Listen as we learn how they brought Steele Mansion back to life, and created the gracious inn that it is today.

The Arabian Nights is a collection of Perso-Arabic folk tales and other stories. The collection, or at least certain stories drawn from it (or purporting to be drawn from it), became widely known in the West from the 18th century, after it was translated from the Arabic — first into French and then into English and other European languages. The first English language edition, based on Galland’s French rather than the original Arabic, rendered the title as The Arabian Nights’ Entertainment – and this, or simply The Arabian Nights, has been the title by which it has been best known to English-speaking people ever since.
