Welcome to Adventures in SLIGHTLY Above Average Parenting. I’m Max’s Mom. That’s not the name I was born with but it seems to be the name that is sticking the most these days so I’ve CLAIMED IT! I’m Max’s Mom, the artist formerly known as Candice. I’m the proud mother to a year of the dragon, Gemini, I’ve been here before, 7 going on 45-year-old boy named Maximus Chase. He is the joy of my heart, the source of my greys and the reason I drink occasionally. In addition to being his mom, I consider myself a community mom. What does that mean? That means, I try to be what I had and needed to the village/posse I’ve built. Guess what, you are all part of that posse now. I shall call us, the parent posse. Aside from being a mom, I’ve lived the life of a licensed teacher and actor. This trifecta allows me to be an edutainer. Don’t judge me, I spend most of my time with little people. I’ve realized, parenting is a daily adventure filled with stories. Some funny, some heavy and some that leave you in tears. Kids don’t come manuels and we are all doing our best to get by. As we go on this adventure called parenting, it is better together, in community. So welcome to mine. Join me as I tell stories from my friends, myself and maybe some of yours of the lessons learned on this adventure of slightly above average parenting. Why Slightly above average. Well come on if we did exceptional parenting all the time, they would have nothing to complain to their therapist to in the future. In addition to our weekly stories, I will drop a mini episode with an educational suggestion to help, hopefully, load your parenting toolbox to help your little people make developmental and academic gains. I’m so excited to have you join me on this adventure of SLIGHTLY above average parenting. And if you are having a bad parenting day, remember, the mom on ET had an alien living in her house for days and never even noticed. Just saying. If you’re doing better than that, you are already winning. Be kind to yourself!!!! and I will chat with you soon.

When President Franklin D. Roosevelt took office in 1933, one in four Americans was out of work nationally, but in some cities and some industries unemployment was well over 50 percent. Equally troubling were the bank panics. Between 1929 and 1931, 4,000 banks closed for good; by 1933 the number rose to more than 9,000, with $2.5 billion in lost deposits. Banks never have as much in their vaults as people have deposited, and if all depositors claim their money at once, the bank is ruined. Millions of Americans lost their money because they arrived at the bank too late to withdraw their savings. The panics raised troubling questions about credit, value, and the nature of capitalism itself. And they made clear the unpredictable relationship between public perception and general financial health—the extent to which the economy seemed to work as long as everyone believed that it would. To stop the run on banks, many states simply closed their banks the day before Roosevelt’s inauguration. Roosevelt himself declared a four-day “bank holiday” almost immediately upon taking office and made a national radio address on Sunday, March 12, 1933, to explain the banking problem. Then until 1944 FDR spoke to America as the depression gave rise to World War II.
