Love Conquers All by Robert Benchley

Love Conquers All by Robert Benchley

    by

    Since Dec 21, 2023 00:00 UTC

Sixty-three essays on a variety of topics as wide apart as Family Life in America, Opera Synopses, Bigamy, International Finance and many more, Love Conquers All by Robert Benchley strangely enough does not touch upon romance at all! However, these delightful notes provide hours of browsing pleasure for young and old readers alike. Robert Benchley was a well-known humorist and newspaper columnist, radio and television presenter, actor, scriptwriter and broadcaster. He is also credited with creating the first ever television entertainment show and one of his iconic short films, How to Sleep won an Academy Award in 1936. Love Conquers All is a collection of short pieces which were published in various newspapers and journals like the The New York Tribune, Life, The New York World and several other consolidated press agencies. Benchley’s tongue-in-cheek humor and his zany commentary on the world around him have continued to delight readers since they were first compiled in book form in 1922. The quirky illustrations by the famous cartoonist Gluyas Williams add to the book’s appeal. Some of the essays in the volume include titles such as Rules and Suggestions for Watching Auction Bridge, Do Insects Think? What to Do While the Family is Away, When not in Rome, Why do as the Romans Did? Welcome Home – And Shut Up! Advice to Writers and a host of other topics. Between 1919-29, Benchley and other greats of American humor formed the famous Algonquin Round Table Club. The members included Dorothy Parker, Alexander Woollcott, George Kaufmann, Harpo Marx and many others whose wacky takes on life continue to delight readers even today. The Algonquin Club which met regularly at the historic Algonquin Hotel in New York. The members whose numbers expanded to include literary greats like Edna Ferber and Heywood Broun. The meetings resulted in the founding of the New Yorker magazine and even today, all guests at the hotel receive free copies of the magazine. The members who referred to themselves as the Vicious Circle had a great influence over literature and journalism of the era. Fitzgerald and Hemingway were also greatly influenced by the ideas of the Vicious Circle. Today the Round Table restaurant at the Algonquin is a mecca for literature buffs. Benchley’s style is upper-class, genteel, literary and is characterized by extensive puns and word play. However, some of his pieces are distinctly of the “cracker-barrel” variety of fun, relying on exaggerations, slapstick and dialects. He had a big influence on humorists ranging from James Thurber to Dave Barry. He wrote more than 600 essays and short pieces which were compiled into more than a dozen volumes, which continue to be published by major publishers. His short films are becoming more and more popular today. An amusing addition to your humor collection!

if God…? Then Why…? This podcast is about god. Is he real? Does he exist? Is he the loving merciful, forgiving god i was brought up to believe in? If he is then why has he allowed certain things to happen? Why has he done some of the thing he has done? It no longer makes sense to me. I am looking for answers and hopefully understanding.

Wealth, Freedom & Options With Joshua Belanger

Wealth, Freedom & Options With Joshua Belanger

    by

    Since Mar 31, 2016 00:14 UTC

Hi I’m Josh, and I’m a finance guy who love’s to trade options. I cut my teeth on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, so I saw firsthand how the “sausage was made” – and it usually wasn’t pretty. As former insider, I saw the inner workings of how these firms and fund managers rob customers right in front of their eyes every month. I quickly realized that professionals only care about getting their fee’s first while 95% of them underperform the overall market every year. In fact, there’s been more fee’s paid out to these “wealth stealers” then overall returns since 2002. After playing by their rules and busting my ass for many years trying to climb the ladder, it started to not sit right with me. I had enough when I continued to be restricted on trying to do the right things for my clients to help them achieve better returns and having senior brokers dip their greedy paws into my checks, leaving me with barley anything to live on telling me… kid you gotta pay your dues. So I left that world behind with a vengeance to beat them at their own game and teach everyday hard working people who trusted these “wealth stealers” the know how and confidence how to manage their own money and to quickly generate returns to get them back on track. I’ve shared my message and strategies with over 129,000 people like you, and everyday investors have suddenly started making money in the market for the first time on their own. Make sure you subscribe to this channel and sign up to receive my daily emails at www.OptionSIZZLE.com so I can email you my daily my tips and secrets on how you can start creating wealth, freedom & options for you and your family.

    Warm Regards

    Warm Regards

    by

    Since Jun 23, 2016 21:08 UTC

Warm Regards is a podcast about life on a warming planet. The show is hosted by Jacquelyn Gill, a paleoecologist at the University of Maine, and Ramesh Laungani, a biologist at Doane University. Produced by Justin Schell, with transcription and social media support from Joe Stormer and Katherine Peinhardt. Our conversations are often honest and raw, as we talk with newsmakers, researchers, activists, policymakers, artists, and others as we push past the graphs and the headlines to get at the heart of what it means to live and work in a warming world. Our current season focuses on the often unexpected human stories behind climate data, from how it’s collected to what we do with it. We’re just as much a podcast about what it means to be human as we are about climate change–how we think, decide, love, grieve, change our behavior, and roll up our sleeves to tackle our toughest challenges.
