    Sounds Like Trouble

    Sounds Like Trouble

    by

    Since Oct 2, 2014 16:07 UTC

I had the displeasure of engineering the first few episodes of a podcast called Sounds Like Trouble. Apparently they do this show somewhere around Chicago in the house of one of the hosts. Every show on this monstrosity of a podcast features a different topic. The hosts Jason and Dave (if that’s their real names) spend the duration of each show bumbling on incoherently, showing what can generously be considered commentary on any of these topics. From technology to relationships, film/music to politics and plenty more, they somehow think they have something to say about everything. Some people have actually called them friendly, relatable, and moderately entertaining. To me, they’re just a couple of rat bastards with mics by their mouths, drinks in one hand, and god-knows-what-else in the other. Somehow, I keep coming back each week to record these rat bastards though. If it weren’t for my other engineer and his frequent “Bingo” expressions, I’d never get through a single show Consider yourself warned. Your time is better spent listening to something else, but try this podcast if you dare. Thanks. Engineer Ray.

Tess of The d’Ubervilles – Thomas Hardy

Tess of The d’Ubervilles – Thomas Hardy

    by

    Since Feb 22, 2022 14:57 UTC

One of the greatest English tragic novels, TESS OF THE D’URBERVILLES (1891) is the story of a “pure woman” who is victimized both by conventional morality and its antithesis. Born near Dorchester, Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) set most of his stories in the region between Berkshire and Dorset in the fictional county of Wessex. He was a controversial writer whose work often showed the result of flouting the rigid Victorian moral code — his novel JUDE THE OBSCURE was (allegedly) burned by the Bishop of Wakefield for its shocking content. Hardy was an unflinching observer and in TESS has left us some unforgettable vignettes of rural life in late 19th-century England: the slow death of a flock of wounded pheasants, the monotony of field labour under an iron gray sky, and the itinerant farm worker’s seasonal round.

    Travel Whys

    Travel Whys

    by

    Since Jul 1, 2021 01:00 UTC

Travel Whys is a travel podcast for growth-hungry entrepreneurs. We explore the deep reasons why people travel – and why, perhaps, everyone ought to adopt a “traveler’s spirit” – because we believe travel can be so much more than merely vacation or leisure. Instead, we see travel as an opportunity for growth and transformation, and as an integral part of a flourishing life full of deep meaning and happiness. We’re pioneers in exploring travel in combination with the themes of continuous learning and the psychology of flow states. You’ll find multiple different series of episodes in the show. For example, our “A Trip That Changed Me” episodes are an opportunity to explore a destination and listen in to a traveler’s story of how their trip provoked a change to their perspective and future direction. In our “Explorer Conversations” episodes, we talk with experts and other guests on cutting-edge issues involving travel, continuous learning and flow states. Lastly, for those who would like to get involved with an interactive experience, we’re partnering with 52 Living Ideas for the “Flow Book Club” starting with a chapter-by-chapter exploration of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s “Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience” See: https://www.meetup.com/52LivingIdeas/ Travel Whys is sponsored by Delve Travel, a new boutique travel agency serving high-ticket entrepreneurs with luxury wellness travel experiences and high-end retreat planning and management services. Energy and Sustainability – Audio

    Energy and Sustainability – Audio

    by

    Since Feb 25, 2019 21:00 UTC

Led by the Energy Security and Climate Change Program, CSIS explores policies and regulations, commercial frameworks, and technological solutions that determine our energy future while balancing economic, environmental, and security priorities. In collaboration with leaders in industry, government, academia, and nonprofits, the Energy Security and Climate Change Program leads projects, events, and publications to help decision makers understand these challenging dynamics. Find the latest research from our scholars and CSIS events on this topic below.

The CSIS Stephenson Ocean Security Project and Energy Security and Climate Change Program are pleased to welcome Senator Tom Udall who will share his views on U.S. efforts to address plastic waste.

The conversation will center on the contribution of plastics to ocean pollution and climate change. Plastic production is forecasted to triple by 2050, at which point it will account for 20 percent of global oil consumption and generate considerable greenhouse gas emissions. The United States alone disposes of 32 million tons of plastic waste each year. Much of that ends up in the ocean where it degrades marine ecosystems and enters our food system through fisheries.

Welcoming remarks will be given by Sarah Ladislaw, Senior Vice President and Director of the Energy Security and Climate Change Program, and the conversation will be moderated by Whitley Saumweber, Director of the Stephenson Ocean Security Project at CSIS.

This event is made possible by the generous support of the Philip Stephenson Foundation and by general support to CSIS and the CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program.
