Join Meaghan “OCV” O’Connor-Vince, as she explores the power and importance of current trends and topics in music education. Listen to guest conversations about the industry, alumni interviews and article narrations empowering the next generation of prevailing music educators.
Neil Newton and Phil Thompson have been talking about religion, philosophy, politics, music, sports, and pretty much anything they felt like talking about every since they became friends while working together at the University of Pittsburgh in the 20-teens. Though Neil is an Atheist and Phil is a Christian, they found that they agreed on more things than not, especially the evils of instant replay! ACAAAWIAB will explore topics like debt, heaven and hell, the Biblical Jubilee, philanthrocapitalism, and many others. Neil and Phil enjoy these conversations, so they figured there’s a chance you will too. I am thrilled to introduce you to a 10-week course that I am offering to help you learn how to advocate to both your inner jury and your outer jury. The course includes coaching through emails and videos as well as a weekly group chat where I can answer your questions live. I am so confident that you’re going to love the tools you gain from our time together that I’m offering you a money-back guarantee for the course. The link goes live on my website on June 12th, and the course starts on July 12th. Please sign up today!
On today’s podcast, we’re going to talk about tool number three of the ten tools of an effective advocate. I know I say every tool is my favorite but this one truly is the most vital tool in the advocacy toolbox. This tool is the most critical for making effective and lasting change in your life, in your commitments, and in your relationships with others. I have seen it in the courtroom and I have seen it in my own life — this tool will give you the confidence you need to begin truly believing in yourself and rising to your best self.
Today we will explore —
The importance of believing in yourself
– You have to find something that you believe in before you can advocate for anything
– You are far less likely to get what you want if you don’t believe you deserve it
– Credibility is a tool that allows people to develop a belief
– Credibility is the predecessor to trust and confidence
– If you want to have confidence in yourself, you have to believe in yourself first
How to build credibility
– Make and keep promises, and set and meet expectations to yourself and to others
– Your trust and self-confidence will increase when you build credibility with yourself
– Admit to yourself and others when you fall short of the promises you’ve made
– Humility offers a grounded alternative to allowing yourself to be vulnerable
– If you’re not ready to own these tools for yourself, you can lean on my beliefs, for now
