The Medical Humanities Podcast – Medicine in History, Culture and the Arts

    by

    Since Jan 22, 2023 20:58 UTC

Welcome to the Medical Humanities podcast. I’m your host, Eve Elliot. You may not hear the words ‘medical’ and ‘humanities’ in the same sentence very often. In fact, at first glance they seem to represent two very different disciplines: one generally scientific and the other generally artistic. This podcast is about the many fascinating ways medicine intersects with history, culture and the arts.

    They Called Her Georgia Lee…

    They Called Her Georgia Lee…

    by

    Since Jul 30, 2021 06:06 UTC

In August of 1997, 12-year-old Georgia Leah Moses went missing in Santa Rosa, California. Nine days later, her body was discovered along the 101 Freeway in Petaluma, about 20 miles south of her last known whereabouts.

In spite of many leads and an eye witness description of the last person she was seen with, no one has been arrested or charged in her abduction, rape, and murder.

After 24 years with no movement in the case, Angel (Georgia’s younger sister) has taken the investigation into her own hands. Since the case is still technically active, resources were limited and information was scarce.

So, in 2020, she started from scratch. Retracing every step and every avenue she could think of to gather information on her own. She began reaching out to friends, family, law enforcement, and the residents of Sonoma County to try and piece together the full picture of Georgia’s tragic death.

In October of 2020 I joined Angel in her hunt for justice, hoping that my history in Sonoma County and my father’s connection to the Sheriff’s department might help us get some footing with those who have been holding on to her case all this time. But honestly, it was a long shot to begin with, because if next of kin can’t get a straight answer, then how would I?

Although there are many hurdles facing us, we did get some answers and from some pretty unexpected places. However, with every question we checked off our list, more questions arose.

As the months pass and we dig deeper into what was really going on with Georgia in the last year of her life, a story filled with twists, turns and shocking revelations continues to unfold.

A Millennial’s Guide to Saving the World

A Millennial’s Guide to Saving the World

    by

    Since Oct 21, 2018 22:09 UTC

I started this podcast because I was tired of being stereotyped as lazy, triggered and entitled. I wanted to give voice to a different kind of millennial and invite us to write a new story – one of a generation willing to challenge the status quo, embrace nuance and paradox, and reject PC-culture. This podcast isn’t about finding answers, it’s about asking the right questions. How can we reinvent ourselves and the narratives we’ve been expected to inherit? How can we take ownership over the ways we participate in our own suffering? How can we move beyond victimization and into empowerment? How can we fix ourselves to fix the world? It’s time for new dreams, new stories and new futures…

    Old Gods of Appalachia

    Old Gods of Appalachia

    by

    Since Oct 31, 2019 04:00 UTC

In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the darkest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake.
