NAPTOWN, SEASON ONE: DAN WAKEFIELD with host Susan Neville

    by

    Since Jul 5, 2020 16:00 UTC

In 2019, at the age of 87, journalist/novelist/raconteur Dan Wakefield sat down with fellow writer Susan Neville to talk about his life and work. Because he was a working writer from the 1950s on, his life intersected with some of the major figures and events of the late twentieth century. In these ten podcasts you’ll hear their stories. The interviews were conducted at Butler University’s Irwin Library and on Mr. Wakefield’s front porch on Northview Avenue in Indianapolis. They were finished in May, 2020, the week before his 88th birthday.

    The War on Drugs

    The War on Drugs

    by

    Since Jan 18, 2023 06:00 UTC

In 1971, President Nixon declared drug abuse ‘public enemy number one’— the first salvo in America’s War on Drugs. Fifty years later, with drug overdoses in the US at a record high, are we any closer to ‘victory’? The War on Drugs has a more profound effect on society than any of us really understands. It is embedded in the fabric of our culture and permeates our daily lives in visible and invisible ways – perhaps the most daunting pandemic we face.

Lava for Good’s The War on Drugs podcast, co-hosted by comedian Clayton English and Greg Glod, senior criminal justice fellow at Americans for Prosperity, examines the true cost of five decades of policy, policing, and persecution. Special guests, including diverse subject matter experts, peel back the surface of this complicated period of US history, showing the ways the War on Drugs has fueled over incarceration, exacerbated addiction and hampered economic progress. By shining a spotlight on how our communities have crumbled under the weight of this so-called ‘war,’ we can explore the politicization of public health policy, institutional racism and classism in the legislation and administration of criminal law, and how decriminalization and other alternatives could bring the fruitless ‘war’ to an end.

The War on Drugs will be available every Wednesday beginning January 25 wherever you get your podcasts.

The War on Drugs is a production of Lava for Good Podcasts in association with Signal Co. No1

    Center for Faith and Work

    Center for Faith and Work

    by

    Since Aug 10, 2017 15:34 UTC

Integrate the Inseparable. The Center for Faith & Work (CFW) exists to explore and investigate the gospel’s unique power to renew hearts, communities, and the world, in and through our day-to-day work. As the cultural renewal arm of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, we foster, shepherd, and empower the church as it is scattered, living and working out in the world, beyond the walls of any one gathered place of worship. CFW’s programming, classes, and events can be characterized by three different areas of emphasis: 1) theological and discipleship training, 2) community formation, and 3) exploring and fostering innovation and imagination in all fields of work.

The Heartsmith Podcast: Reading the Works of Imam al-Haddad’

    by

    Since Oct 28, 2021 14:47 UTC

Imam ʿAbd-Allah al-Haddad (may Allah have mercy on him) is considered the 12th century’s reviver of the religion. His books have a profound impact and speak directly to the heart, which is why he is called ‘Haddad al-Qulub’, the Heartsmith.

Jalsa al-Awwabin is a monthly gathering of readings from Imam al-Haddad’s various books. In the Heartsmith Podcast, we share the recordings from these gatherings in order to multiply the blessings and benefit.

To get the most out this series, we recommend owning a copy of the books, which we read in the following order:

    1. Counsels of Religion (https://bit.ly/36W2j0i)

    2. The Complete Summons (https://bit.ly/36ZVeff)

    3. Knowledge and Wisdom (https://bit.ly/3tPQIdh)

    5. The Lives of Man (https://amzn.to/3a95Bzz)

    6. Good Manners (https://bit.ly/3q7eHC7)

    7. A poem from Imam al-Haddad’s Diwan
