Welcome to Writing One Spoon At A Time! I’m JM Weiner and I’ll talk about all things writing, reading, and chronic illness. You’ll get a peek into my writing process and the things I use to make that a little easier. I’ll tell you about what I read, both fiction and nonfiction. Sometimes I’ll talk about how my chronic illnesses affect my life–reading, writing, and everyday stuff. I might even talk about my 6 cats or my husband. Yup, six cats. One husband. No kids. Hang around. It should be tons of fun. Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jmwrites/support

    Bedtime Stories For Grownups

    by

    Since Sep 21, 2020 22:00 UTC

Bedtime Stories For Grownups is a series of whimsical scenes from the stuff of dreams that is intended to be a portal into dreamland. There is no plot to follow and no sense to make of anything – simply descriptions of dreamscapes to help you find your way there. Please note that some listeners may find some of the content a little dark and unsettling. These tales are told with humility – and with respect. Any descriptive similarity to actual persons or events is unintentional and entirely coincidental. Soundscape by Alpha Jetplane Music.

Genji Monogatari (The Tale of Genji) by Murasaki Shikibu (978 – c 1025)

    by

    Since Jan 1, 1970 00:00 UTC

The Tale of Genji (Genji Monogatari) is a classic work of Japanese literature attributed to the Japanese noblewoman Murasaki Shikibu in the early eleventh century, around the peak of the Heian Period. It is sometimes called the world’s first novel, the first modern novel, the first romance novel, or the first novel to still be considered a classic… The Genji was written for the women of the aristocracy (the yokibito) and has many elements found in a modern novel: a central character and a very large number of major and minor characters, well-developed characterization of all the major players, a sequence of events happening over a period of time covering the central character’s lifetime and beyond. The work does not make use of a plot; instead, much as in real life, events just happen and characters evolve simply by growing older. One remarkable feature of the Genji, and of Murasaki’s skill, is its internal consistency, despite a dramatis personae of some four hundred characters. For instance, all characters age in step and all the family and feudal relationships are consistent among all chapters. NOTE: this is a highly condensed version of the text, running to just under 200 pages, whereas the original is nearly 1000 pages long! (Summary by Wikipedia)
