Our Old Nursery Rhymes by Alfred Moffat

Our Old Nursery Rhymes by Alfred Moffat

    by

    Since Jan 2, 2024 00:00 UTC

If you love and cherish old English nursery rhymes and have fond memories of your early childhood years, Our Old Nursery Rhymes by Alfred Moffat published in 1911 is indeed the little book for you! Or as a parent, if you’d like your own children to share the magic, this book provides them all. One of the most appealing aspects of this charming book is that the rhymes are all set to music and if you’re musically inclined, you can certainly keep yourself and your children entertained by playing these pretty tunes. Today, we are much less tolerant of perceived political incorrectness, subtle violence, racism and sexism, but in the era when these rhymes were sung, these ideas were not prevalent and children were exposed to many of the less savory aspects of human life. “Pussy-cat Pussy-cat where have you been” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” “Dickory Dickory Dock” “Polly Put the Kettle On” and others are some of the old favorites featured here. Others like “Yankee Doodle” “O Where is My Little Dog Gone” are American favorites. Modern research has shown that many of these nursery rhymes have a historical basis. Some like “Georgy-Porgy” are comic lampoons of the romantic predilections of George IV of England, while others like “Sing a Song of Sixpence” have historical allusions. “Oranges and Lemons” is a great way to remember the churches in and around London. Rhymes like “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush” are really games that young kids enjoy as they sing, “This is the way we wash our face” etc and also learn about their daily routines. Alfred Edward Moffat was a Scottish musician who composed many pieces of classical music. He was also a music historian and folk-song collector. The original version of Our Old Nursery Rhymes was charmingly illustrated by Henriette Willebeek La Mair and is today a collector’s item.

    SHAT

    SHAT

    by

    Since Oct 20, 2010 01:58 UTC

In a post-plague world where humans, animals, and plants have suffered, a colony of survivors has gathered in a fortified former-luxury condominium complex they call “The Park”. These remnants of humanity are inextricably bound to their domestic cats from which Dose (a temporary plague vaccine) is derived. A forager army is heading toward The Park. The Park people must prepare to defend themselves and all they have worked for. They have made a discovery: not all cats are created equal. While regular Dose staves off plague symptoms, the dose derived from Simon (The Park’s only Siamese cat) can be refined into SHAT, a super-dose that rejuvenates the growth of plant life. . . and which also may hold the secret to a permanent plague-cure. Problem: Simon is a neuter. If he should die, so, too, dies humanity’s hope for survival. Enter Sasha, a purebred female Balinese of breeding age that also produces SHAT. With the increasing militarization in The Park (and sky-rocketing tension), Sasha’s humans want to leave, taking their cat with them. But The Park people won’t let them go. . . .

Thank God For Plan B, Because Plan A Didn’t Work – Vol 1

Thank God For Plan B, Because Plan A Didn’t Work – Vol 1

    by

    Since Aug 14, 2015 19:03 UTC

I believe that in everyone’s life there is “PLAN A” and a “PLAN B”; however, not in the traditional sense as in having a backup plan, but rather …Plan A: Is designated as the time in one’s life before you personally met Christ. PLAN B: Is after you met him and you now have a personal relationship with him, and this life should be distinctly different from your Plan A. It is my belief that your Plan A is where Satan attacks you in the attempt to throw you off course in the effort to prevent you from meeting your objective of “Why you are here on this earth in the first place”. In this story we follow what happened to the main character named “Jonathan Butler” and how he handled his “Curve Ball”. We watch through five different novels how he adjusts to life’s challenges and his many attempts to return to center and find his way back to Christ.

Last time somebody won a Grammy and said “I’d like to thank God”, the press ignored it. The same happens when an athlete credits God for a game winning touchdown or a business mogul breaks out. Gifted and Lifted gives world class talent the chance to elaborate. “Do you really credit God?” “Are there things you do to derive power from God?” “How do you recognize when it’s God’s power lifting you versus your own grit?” “What do you do when success and faith seem to clash?” We’ll listen to world class performers offer Tips, Tactics, and Stories about how to tap into the Godly ether that lifts them and eludes others.
