    To the Heights

    by

    Since May 24, 2019 18:00 UTC

Inspired by Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati’s mantra, “to the heights,” this podcast uses the charism of Frassati’s care for the poor and vulnerable to highlight people who are reaching to the heights in their own lives. Host Olivia R. Colombo takes her background in environmental activism and social justice to introduce listeners to people who are making positive change in the world–– activists, religious, journalists, youth ministers, artists, social workers, and everyone in between. Yukari Kane and Shaheen Pasha, co-founders of the Prison Journalism Project, join Olivia to talk about journalism justice and the project they created to extend that justice into prisons. Richard Wagamese wrote that the stories we tell create the world we live in and when we share these stories we see each other. And when we see each other we can change the world. So Can we talk? And get to know each other so that we can learn from each other. Let’s start with me – I’m Erin Buchmann, the host of WordUp the podcast that I hope you will be listening to and I’m the Indigeous Instructional Coach for District School Board Ontario North East. I’m not Indigenous. I start with this because I want to make sure that you understand that when I say – we are all in this together – you know that I am learning with you through this podcast. Because we are all in this together as we learn about our collective history and prepare our youth to create a new future story. Because talking reminds of who we are and who we might become. Because words matter. They shape how we think about each other and ourselves. And what we think shapes how we act. Because we can do better. And as educators this is our call to action to educate ourselves, elevate the conversation and celebrate culture. Each podcast I will be joined by a co-host from one of our schools and a special guest to talk about their work as an Indigenous author, artist or community leader. Some conversations will be hard, some will be funny and some will leave with more questions than answers. But they will all be authentic. So I’m asking you to raise your words, participate in the conversation and follow us on Twitter and Instagram @2020wordup.

    What’s The Difference?

    What’s The Difference?

    by

    Since Feb 28, 2019 18:01 UTC

Diversity is an incredible resource that is likely going untapped in your organization…Here is your chance to change that. Look around this country. Diversity & Inclusion professionals, as well as countless committed leaders and employees have been working hard for decades to create organizations that are more diverse and inclusive. They are working hard to make Diversity & Inclusion (or D&I) a part of the DNA of their organizations and communities. Yet for every two steps forward, we still take one step back. Or two. Or three. It’s time for our approach to make sure that two steps forward remains just that: two steps forward. It’s time for Diversity 3.0: Transformational Diversity. Transformational Diversity requires us to build new skillsets to go along with new mindsets. It requires us to respond to ever greater levels of complexity. When we operate at this level we ensure that the fact of Diversity, the fact that we are all different to one degree or another, actually transforms individuals with ideas and experiences from ineffective siloed belief-bunkers into truly inclusive environments where everyone interacts at the peak of professional effectiveness. Sara Taylor is author of the best-selling book Filter Shift, and founder of deepSEE Consulting. Each podcast episode of What’s The Difference? provides the tools, resources, and insights you need to begin to transform your organization or the organizations with whom you work into the inclusive, effective powerhouses of the 21st century.
