The Shetland Islands are situated in the North Sea 200 miles north of Aberdeen, Scotland and 250 miles west of Bergin, Norway. They consist of 100 islands, with only about a dozen of them inhabited. Its weather gets a bad rap but its people are intensely hospitable and neighbourly. In April 2002, a small group of enthusiasts – Jack, Irene, Barbara and Nan – first gathered to explore the possibility of creating a regular radio programme. Nervous at their lack of radio experience as producers, they wondered if they would measure up. Over the months, as they got to grips with broadcasting, the local café kept them buoyed with coffee and muffins as they met to discuss programme ideas and confidence slowly grew. There was a hunger in the community for contact with stories and people from The Shetlands. People wanted to gain an understanding about their family histories, so the backing of the local Shetland Society was key. Irene was the authority on Shetland music so listeners got to know some fantastic modern groups who rode the wave of the renaissance of fiddling music. Barbara went on a huge learning curve and made connections with her island-dwelling great, great grandmother. Both Nan’s parents immigrated to NZ in 1922 and she visited Shetland four times – each time in a different season. For Nan, doing the programme is “like giving something back for the fantastic upbringing my mother and father gave me – including the great pride in our strange heritage.” “Don’t just talk about the past….” was the message given very strongly from the organisation. The Shetland character is very droll so over the years the team has included fun pieces about life in Shetland today (bizarre cricket matches, letters from “home” and even the Unst bustop), themes matching NZ celebrations like July’s KidsFest when they linked in with children, grand-children or even great grandchildren. Stories, poetry and recollections from both world wars abound. Visitors to the city are snapped up if they have Shetland connections, and the hope is to one day interview ex-Prime Minister Helen Clarke – she had a great uncle.. The aim is to get a balance between nostalgia pieces and contemporary issues, experiences and music.

Tech shapes almost every aspect of our daily lives. And yet the tech we use has been controlled by a select few for far too long. Host Brenda Darden Wilkerson, President and CEO of AnitaB.org, challenges this disparity head-on. Yes, there are problems in tech, but this is a show about solutions. Dive deep, beyond the doom and gloom tech headlines, into deep, thoughtful dialogues with the pioneers and change-makers reshaping the space. Each episode of B The Way Forward is a call to action. Immerse yourself in stories of hope, learn about leaders driving change, and arm yourself with tools to be part of that change. Let’s reclaim our digital agency, redefine tech, and create a future where those who create tech truly mirror the faces of those who use it. — At AnitaB.org, we envision a future where the people who imagine and build technology mirror the people and societies for whom they build it. Find out more about how we support women, non-binary individuals, and other underrepresented groups in computing, as well as the organizations that employ them and the academic institutions training the next generations. — Connect with AnitaB.org Instagram – @anitab_org Facebook – /anitab.0rg LinkedIn – /anitab-org Photo of Brenda Darden Wilkerson by Mandisa Media Productions And for more ways that you can be the way forward visit anitab.org

As The Fire Burned simply seeks to use God-given reasoning and spiritual enlightenment (from God’s Holy Spirit) to discern the times and fulfill the mission Christ left to His Church (ambassadors); the true meaning of ‘occupy till He returns’! In musing, we are encouraging the saints to stop and take a minute to think about the things they think they believe and understand, uncovering the truths of God’s Word and holding onto the meaning, endeavoring to apply it in our lives when applicable.

Welcome to ‘Deer. Brother. Road.’ #DBR Just about 300 episodes told from the shoulder of Interstate 80 near the border oh-hi-oh Ohio and in the voice of actor Tommy Lee Jones half in the bag and at 1:04am in the morning. Woozy to say the least. 18 wheelers wiz by mindlessly as deer get hit left for the state to clean up. It’s not even deer season yet. Some wish it was. Truth being all it is forgetting the past is impossible for most everyone around here. And a quick note from the producers of this show not recommended for the faint hearted or those quick to a squeamish condition.
