Finally, a podcast that studies, analyzes and celebrates women in TV. Thousands of comedies, variety shows and dramas have aired, yet the presence of strong women – both in front of and behind the camera – is an experience we need to understand better and embrace. With an eye to aligning the leadership lesson, time capsule observation or fascinating backstory of a show’s success or failure, my goal of Advanced TV Herstory is to connect the treasures of the past to the great potential of today’s TV and online platforms. Tomorrow’s success is rooted in understanding what has come before us. So gear up for a little sociology, economics, strategy, storytelling and fun.

Each week, your hosts–public radio veteran Stephan Cox, political science PhD candidate Chad Levinson, and Democratic strategist David Gershwin–unpack the week in politics and attempt to drill down through the chatter and into something that quite possibly resembles the truth. Born during the 16-month long national nightmare that is the 2016 Presidential election, the show continues to evolve, examining greater and deeper themes and threads across the political and cultural landscape. Stephan Cox is a broadcasting veteran, working in and around radio for over 30 years. He was the host of the former Salon.com Radio Show for PRI, and has reported for NPR’s Weekend All Things Considered. He was a founding member of, and show host at, the groundbreaking interview website, Redband.com, while also hosting a weekly arts and culture show on KUSF in San Francisco, as well as a weekly call-in tech show for Talk Radio Network. Chad Levinson is an academic political scientist, completing his doctorate at the University of Chicago. He is also a former Research Fellow in the International Security Program of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He is currently a preceptor in the Committee on International Relations at the University of Chicago, a degree-granting graduate program that trains future leaders in government, academics, and not-for-profit organizations world-wide. David Gershwin is a Democratic strategist, and was the Chief of Staff to LA Mayor Eric Garcetti. His consulting firm provides government relations, issue advocacy, media relations, crisis communications, and social media services for private sector, public sector, and non-profit clients.

Join me, Melissa Browne, ex-financial advisor, ex-accountant, ex-working till I drop. Now serial entrepreneur, best selling author and financial educator as I talk all things money. Why a podcast about money? That’s because as women we’re choosing not to talk about it and when it comes to dealing with money – we’re kind of sucking at it. There is a wage gap that exists not simply in the corporate world but in the world of small and medium business owners where women should be on par with men. There is a gap between men and women that we’ve tossed in the too hard basket for the moment in our superannuation funds. And there’s a widening gap between those who own property and those who do not. And let’s not even talk about the role money and power holds in our society. That’s why ladies I believe finance is a feminist issue. It’s time we started to uncensor money. Here you’ll find chats about money where we throw off the notion that money is crass or uncomfortable. It’s all about becoming comfortable bringing money into our everyday conversations and through it, figuring out what our own money story is and whether we might want to change it.
At Advocate Legal, we are driven by a desire to give power back to the powerless, to help homeowners defeat the big banks that try to take advantage of you and to get justice for every client.
