A Plain English Handbook: How to create clear SEC disclosure documents by The Securities and Exchan

    Since Jul 15, 2023 22:25 UTC

The Plain Writing Act of 2010 (Act) is intended to make it easy for the public to understand government documents. The SEC, like other federal agencies, must write documents in plain writing, defined under the Act as writing that is “clear, concise, well-organized, and follows other best practices appropriate to the subject or field or audience.” Starting in October 2011, the Act requires us to write new and substantially revised documents in plain language using the Federal Plain Language Guidelines. As a disclosure agency, the SEC is committed to communicating with investors in easily understandable language. In 1998, the SEC published a guide, A Plain English Handbook: How to Create Clear SEC Disclosure Documents, showing securities lawyers and companies ways to reduce legalese. (Summary by the SEC)Reader Note: The examples in Chapter 7 – Designing the Document convey visual information. Please refer to the e-text to see these examples.

You’re DONE gauging this elusive economy, and you’re READY to launch or expand your business right now. But how will you fund this exciting new venture??? Great question! Business ownership in a competitive and fluctuating economy can be SUPER expensive, with only a small percentage of business owners reporting launch costs of less than $50,000. That’s right- over 27% of small business owners report a hefty price tag of between $250,000 and $500,000 to get their company going. And those business owners were verrry savvy about what TYPE of funding to use and how to VET THE LENDER, since all lenders are NOT created equal… In business, it pays to know what you don’t know. This August, we’re launching Season 4 of THINK OUTSIDE THE BANK podcast – for small business owners looking to earn, protect, and attract more money into their companies- by playing smart and VETTING THE LENDER. First, we’ll help to ensure your business is set up for success through de-risking, getting clear on the amount of funding you need, cleaning up your credit score, analyzing your debt-to-income ratio, time in business, and more. Next, we’ll explore various TYPES of funding like SBA loans, leases, heavy equipment funding, used equipment funding, larger loans, business expansion funding, grants, and business plan competitions, to help narrow down what makes sense for you. And, you’ll become EMPOWERED by learning how to VET THE LENDER’s technology-efficiency rating, reputation, terms, fees, timeline, and collateral requirements to carefully select a lender that WORKS for you. Where’s The Grief?

    Where’s The Grief?

    by

    Since Sep 5, 2019 18:14 UTC

Where’s the Grief is a weekly podcast about loss and grief in everyday life that somehow manages to be consistently funny, surprisingly insightful and easily absorbed. It’s a show that isn’t afraid to face some of the most difficult questions of what it ultimately means to be human, while finding the ever-present comedy in our day-to-day truths, and some of the things we all fear. In each episode, host Jordon Ferber interviews comedians, actors, writers, and others who have experienced tragic loss—not just of loved ones, but of jobs, homes, security and familiarity—and are making their way through to the other side. Ferber himself is no stranger to grief, having lost his younger brother to a car accident at the age of 21. Drawing on his own experience, as well as his 20+ years of work as a standup comedian in NYC—which can be tragic, in and of itself—Ferber brings insight, pathos and humor to his role as host. All the while, exhibiting camaraderie with his guests, putting them at ease and making the show surprisingly enjoyable for listeners.
