That Sober Couple are Lisa and Jon, sober and newly coupled. Living and working in a 1000 square foot apartment for two years, and after countless Lisa’s Couch TedTalks, a podcast seemed the next obvious step. We have never seen each other drunk or hungover. Jon’s a traditional 12 stepper, Lisa’s more of a maverick. In their first sober relationship in middle age, Lisa and Jon talk about sobriety, what it is to be a “pandemic couple”, basically, it’s Lisa’s TedTalks from the Couch in conversation form. Join us! “Everything you really need to know about the Philippines, right now. Where coolness decides and night life resides. Hosted by gay singer Miles Sanchez, with indie film director Margaret Guzman, stage actress Cara Mesina, and voice actor Bon Reyes.” [itunes pic]
Four-time Palanca awardee playwright and television director Floy Quntos shares a couple of laughs with Miles as he talks about his groundbreaking Reality TV show in a Reality TV show in a play, SHOCK VALUE. A sudden but intentional deviation from his historical and critically acclaimed St. Louis Loves Dem Filipinos, Shock Value tells of a TV host named Matt (Andoy Ranay and John Cruz, alernate), whose life turns into a psychedelic rollercoaster ride after a highly publicized rendezvous with a supposedly underaged street hustler. Watch as Matt negotiates the monstrosity he has unwillingly concocted from the flashy ingredients of TV glamour and personal manipulation. The colors are tremendous, the energy inviting, and the actors almost allow you to jump onstage and indulge in the madness. It’s like watching your typical Filipino lunch time variety show–only with x-ray vision and three shots of runaway steriods. Shock Value is directed by the formidable Alex Cortez and features Frances Makil-Ignacio, Stella Canete, Missy Maramara, Dexter Santos, Jomari Jose, Justin de Leon, Mario Magallona and Edwin Serrano, along with a powerhouse cast of young theater actors, singers and dancers. It’s amazing how you can cram in so many people in such a compact theater. The play runs August 30th til September 17th at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, in UP Diliman. Tickets and inquiries at 926-1349 or 981-8500 extension 2449 and 2450. Music in this episode is called “Carousel” by Miles Sanchez.

Shattered Silence: The Countdown 3 Women 2 Years 1 City 0 Answers

    by

    Since Mar 29, 2020 18:24 UTC

Shattered Silence: The Countdown is a true crime podcast based on the deaths of three women in Lumberton, North Carolina. The bodies of Rhonda Jones and Christina Bennett were found by the same person on the same day just blocks apart on April 18, 2017. Megan Oxendine spoke to a local news reporter about the deaths, and was found dead about six weeks after that interview. All three women’s rape kits sat untested for more than a year, and it took about a year and a half for the families to receive autopsy results. Rhonda Jones’ mother created a group called ‘Shatter The Silence’ which aims to help those who have lost family members to murder or have family members who are missing in Robeson County. There are many questions surrounding this investigation, and as you’ll hear, the FBI stepped in to help local law enforcement, but why haven’t there been any arrests? Robeson County locals have differing opinions on who they think killed the women.

A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan

A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan

    by

    Since Feb 17, 2023 20:09 UTC

Tom and Dan were once sitting in a hotel room in Daytona Beach, Florida where the air-condition didn’t work, they were out of beer, and the cable only had 2 channels that came in static free. One of their friends suggested that they leave and attempt to find something better to do to which Dan replied “Why would we want to ruin a mediocre time?” If you were to ask “Tom and Dan” what the meaning of life is, they might tell you that there is none. Born from a feeling that nothing in life truly matters and that for the most part we’re all surrounded by scumbags, “Tom and Dan” figured out that there’s only one true constant in life; laughter. How did they come to that conclusion? It’s all they have. You see, just like the mass majority of us, “T & D” have day jobs and it was at said day job where they cued in on the fact that some of the greatest laughs came at the end of the day. There’s just something about the relaxed feeling of knowing that you have very little time left at work to put in. Maybe it’s the “punch drunkenness” of still being at work; no one is quite sure. There they sat in their office, the door shut to their co-workers and management, only making each other laugh to the point of tears. Finally they realized that it might not be such a bad idea to roll tape on these conversations. Why not? They would be having them anyway, taped or not, and it was fun. Both of them come from rather lengthy broadcasting careers so setting up a home studio wasn’t so hard to do. And with the addition of Ross, the consummate straight man and “News Dad”, things got even more “mediocre.” Broadcasting since 2009 has garnered a rather extensive following for “T & D” with loyal “scumbags” (as their listeners are affectionately known) checking in from all across the world. Hundreds of shows under their belts and winners of the Orlando Weekly’s “Best of Orlando 2011” for “Best Kept Secret” reassures them both that yes…no one is listening! (Best Kept Secret? HA!)
