    Let’s Talk Resale

    Let’s Talk Resale

    by

    Since Aug 26, 2022 13:59 UTC

In 2022 alone, there were 150 billion new garments produced to clothe a world of only 8 billion. 90% of that ends up in landfills. No question, the fashion industry is hurtling toward a reckoning. Here at Trove, we intend to learn, unlearn, and relearn so we can inspire our peers, the industry, and our youth that as a collectively conscious body, we can achieve growth without growing our emissions.

Let’s Talk Resale is a foundational series that considers the emerging landscape of resale also known as recommerce. We follow Andy Ruben – Founder and Executive Chair of Trove – as he dives deep into the trends shaping the circular economy.

Each episode’s theme will address key issues that brands face when adopting a recommerce platform. We’ll interrogate the nuances of sustainability and discuss the implications of recommerce for brand control. You’ll hear key anecdotes from brands with resale models that are already thriving, such as REI, in addition to a bottom-up approach, where we interview several members of Gen Z, and gain insight into the future consumer.

To capture the fast-paced weekly news in the resale industry, we have an episode every Tuesday, The Resale Edit, that highlights the key trends and takeaways for brands and their teams which is hosted by Trove’s Head of Content, Samantha Dersarkissian. Subscribe to the accompanying newsletter here.

This series is a tour de force that will educate, inspire, and offer insight into Trove’s product and vision. While targeted to thought leaders and luxury executives, all listeners will gain a robust understanding of the state of recommerce. Along the way, you’ll come to face the inevitable choice fashion brands must make to stay relevant in the 21st century.

The Location of Knowledge: A Mellon CDI Conference

The Location of Knowledge: A Mellon CDI Conference

    by

    Since Mar 11, 2013 11:30 UTC

The Centre for Disciplinary Innovation (CDI) is part of a four-year project (initially 2008-2011; renewed for 2011-15) funded by the Andrew W Mellon Foundation. The CDI is a focus for collaboration and innovation at the graduate level and beyond, complementing other activities initiated within the CRASSH themes of Cultural Transmission, Disciplinary Change, The Future University, Cultures and Politics of the Transregional, and for 2013-15, The Location of Knowledge. This general theme encompasses how knowledge is formulated within disciplines, regions, practices; how it changes under pressure from different forces — religious conversion, new technologies, say. Under this general rubric and within our Mellon Centre for Disciplinary Innovation, this conference explores the notion of understanding itself. Each session will look at how understanding focuses on a particular “location” and is formulated through that location: so “understanding (through) things” will investigate how things are understood, how understanding is formulated with and through things, and what the relation between these two sorts of understanding is. And similarly with “voice”, “body” and “concepts”. We have invited four of the world’s top scholars to investigate these problems. Simon Schaffer is best known for his work with Stephen Shapin on “Leviathan and the Airpump” and is undoubtedly one of the world’s leading historian of science. John Forrester is one of the foremost historians of psychoanalysis. Peter de Bolla, expert in the 18th century is a celebrated theorist of art, literature and culture. Sarah Franklin, Cambridge’s new professor of sociology, is a brilliant exponent of how reproductive technologies are changing our relation to the body. To help focus discussion we have also brought in four further world experts: Akeel Bilgrami, philosopher from Columbia, New York; Sally Shuttleworth, historian of literature and psychological theory from Oxford: Clifford Siskin, Director of The Re:Enlightenment Project who is currently a Leverhulme Visiting Professor at CRASSH, and Clare Pettitt, Professor of Nineteenth Century Literature and Culture at King’s College London. Papers will be short and to the point; responses robust; and there will be plenty of time, as CRASSH usually demands, for intense discussion.

    Tales From A Cult Insider

    Tales From A Cult Insider

    by

    Since Apr 25, 2018 07:59 UTC

Here is a podcast where I tell stories about growing up in a fairly well-known cult. Starting as the Process Church of the Final Judgement in the UK and morphing into the Foundation Faith of God in the US – it was controversial in many ways. It evolved over the years and now has no religion, functioning solely as Best Friends Animal Society. There’s much that hasn’t been told about 30+ kids that were ‘raised’ in this cult. Cult orphans is a fair way to describe us. These are stories of my growing up in this cult along with lessons learned and some episodes with my sister. Please support! Harrison Augustine a Lake Charles, LA local has never failed to make an audience cackle. With his loud laughter, or crude remarks he never fails to make one smile. What better way to do it with a podcast. Sharing his life stories as a child, growing up in Louisiana, to stirring the gumbo pot of drama. He is sure to make you laugh. Don’t get too comfortable, there’s a lot to unpack here. So sit back, relax, and put your damn headphones in because he doesn’t want to hear his voice while you listen to him talk.
