    Since Jan 27, 2021 16:00 UTC

Welcome to Friends Who Argue, a podcast for the litigation bar brought to you by The Advocates’ Society and hosted by our Young Advocates’ and 10+ Standing Committees. Friends Who Argue features intimate conversations with advocates from across Canada, who will share stories from their journeys as advocates. As litigators, we live in an adversarial world but we all have one thing in common – we are officers of the court who are passionate about the profession of law and advocating for our clients. We hope you find these conversations informative, inspiring and most of all, entertaining. By Advocates. For Advocates. Land Acknowledgement: The Advocates’ Society acknowledges that our offices, located in Toronto, are on the customary and traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinabek, the Huron-Wendat and now home to many First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples. We acknowledge current treaty holders, the Mississaugas of the Credit and honour their long history of welcoming many nations to this territory. While The Advocates’ Society is based in Toronto, we are a national organization with Directors and members located across Canada in the treaty and traditional territories of many Indigenous Peoples. We encourage our members to reflect upon their relationships with the Indigenous Peoples in these territories, and the history of the land on which they live and work. We acknowledge the devastating impacts of colonization, including the history of residential schools, for many Indigenous peoples, families, and communities and commit to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in an informed legal profession in Canada and within The Advocates’ Society.

    Something From Everything

Life has meaning. Yours. Mine. Everyone’s. That’s it! That’s my big audacious claim. Now, some may claim to know what that meaning is. But my suspicion? They’re making it up. Because we all are. And that, is a very good thing. Us humans, we are meaning making machines. Pattern recognizers. Maybe even pattern inventors. We are storytellers. And the stories we receive and tell, they shape us. They help us create and discover our meaning. So where do we get these stories? Some might argue that we only create meaning from our most established teachers: Our family of origin, our culture, our greatest thinkers, and our sacred texts and traditions. And we can certainly create meaning from these. But, we also discover meaning through unexpected and commonly overlooked means: Watching our children play with abandon. Losing ourself in the well chosen words of our favorite song or poem. By noticing how a moment of solitude can both embrace us and unnerve us. If we are paying enough attention, each moment, from the mundane to the sublime can be our teacher. We can make Something From Everything. So how do we make meaning in our lives? How do we tell a better story? Well that’s what this podcast is all about. Reflections on the events and ideas surrounding us to discover meaning and connections. Welcome to Something From Everything.

Follow a tech startup on its journey from nascent idea to embryonic product, to triumphant launch.

“Launch” follows Rob Walling and Derrick Reimer as they take email marketing startup Drip from the first days of inception through the agonizing months of writing code, talking to customers, and the never-ending uncertainty of whether anyone will ever use what they are building.

From the honeymoon period of “green field” development to the sleepless nights of database failures, “Launch” captures the often underplayed, but very real angst of building a startup.

Compiled and edited from dozens of conversations captured over a 9-month period, this 2-hour audio documentary serves as a dose of reality to the often mythical media portrayal of the startup journey.

    Escape

    Escape

    by

    Since Jan 8, 2018 14:00 UTC

More than 9 million Men and Women are locked up all across the world. This podcast tells the stories of those who dared to escape. George Rivas walked slowly out of the guard house of the maximum security prison he was serving time in and made his way over to the gate beside the guard tower. Nervously he cleared his throat and yelled up to the officer to open the main gate. The officer approached the side of the tower and peered down at the inmate who was now disguised in civilian clothing… the gate remained shut. If he was going to escape, Rivas needed this gate open. He yelled up to the officer again and watched in horror as he backed away from the edge and went inside the guard tower. The panic set in and Rivas’ heart started to pound in his chest. Was the guard calling for backup? Did he recognize him? Could he see right through the plan? Rivas needed to get up into that guard tower. He needed that gate opened. His escape plan depended on it.
