    Brain Cigar

    Brain Cigar

    by

    Since May 30, 2021 06:52 UTC

Writers Peter Baynham (Borat, I’m Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, The Day Today, Arthur Christmas) and Jeremy (Jez) Simmonds (Number One in Heaven, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Up Late, Crash!) discuss world events, TV shows, movies, music, books and products that they remember very clearly, even if you don’t. All this whilst caring for deceased Archbishop of Canterbury Robert Runcie and unwillingly broadcasting John ‘Throat’ Church’s autobiography The Architecture of Bacon. Please try to understand. Brain Cigar is an Ambulenz Podcast produced by Francis Jones. Creators’ note: Since the first six episodes of Brain Cigar were lost in a tragic server crash that also claimed the first 38 instalments of H from Steps’ Guide to Affordable Laptops, the podcast currently begins at Episode 7. We apologise for any inconvenience.

    Fly By Night

    Fly By Night

    by

    Since Jul 29, 2020 19:37 UTC

These are stories of America’s drug smuggling pilots and the people who chased them; stories of conspiracy, dangerous flying, of greed, adventure and murder. Told through interviews with flyers who chose to use their skills to move contraband into the United States, and through the perspective of law enforcement agents of the DEA, FBI and others who worked to catch them. Season One begins with the four-part tale of a crooked cop and pilot who created one of the country’s biggest aerial smuggling operations, and then parachuted to his death loaded down with cocaine and weapons. Fly By Night is a production of Midnight Flyer Media.

In the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s, a group of Southern Californians turned to smuggling to finance and build a counter culture community. But they hadn’t started out as enlightened hippies. Before one long strange night of transformation, they had been petty criminals, more interested in stealing than in peace and love. After their 180 degree change, they became known as the “Brotherhood of Eternal Love” and were known for selling hash from Afghanistan, and for practically giving away hundreds of thousands of tabs of “Orange Sunshine” LSD, even dropping thousands of tabs from a Cessna flying over a festival. They had communal homes in California and later in Hawaii, and in the waning years of the Brotherhood’s smuggling operations, that’s where DEA Agent Kelly Snyder first encountered a pilot named Randy Garrett. By coincidence, their paths would later cross in Louisville, Kentucky, and their story has an unusual end. The second story in this episode is that of Wally Thrasher of Virginia, a charismatic pilot whose skills were much in demand, and who was living a good life until everything came apart when someone else crashed a plane he owned, and law enforcement agents began to close in on him. Thrasher’s attempts to recover from the loss of a great deal of money and drugs that burned in the crash would led to his own mysterious disappearance, with theories of his death in another crash, possible murder, and even a well-financed change of identity and a life on the run.

To tell his story, we have a special guest presenter, three-time national aerobatic champion and member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame, Patty Wagstaff.

    50 Desi Super Drinks

    50 Desi Super Drinks

Young, active and accomplished, Lovneet Batra is one of Delhi’s most insightful nutritionists, columnists and former host of Restaurant Spy by India Today Group. She has also been the celebrity host for various television shows on NDTV, History, India Today, etc.

Founder of Nutrition by Lovneet, she holds a BS and MS in Dietetics and believes in a sustainable ‘no deprivation’ approach to a meaningful, long-lasting lifestyle makeover. Her unparalleled knowledge and experience in the field of Sports Nutrition has earned her a long-term association with the Sports Authority of India. In the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, she played a key role as official nutritionist to various Indian teams such as boxing, cycling, gymnastics and hockey (girls).

In this contemporary era, where our diet has become as glamorous as fashion, people believe that superfoods come from some faraway land and are expensive too. 50 Desi Super Drinks by Lovneet Batra aims to burst this bubble and make people believe that any food that is homegrown, seasonal and fresh can be considered as a superfood. Along with the facts, come the recipes. They are 100 per cent Indian at heart, natural, easy to prepare.

The subject chosen is exemplary and unique. The author is giving us the recipe of fifty indigenous drinks. These are the drinks that are so common in India that we drink them routinely (or have stopped now after becoming westernized) without even knowing their health benefits and healing attributes. The book serves two purposes (at least). First, to remind those who have forgotten and tell those who are ignorant, the miraculous features of fifty Indian drinks, and secondly, the right way to prepare such delicious drinks that will be loved by your palate.
