An annual conference to explore ‘Building Peace’ from multidisciplinary perspectives held in Oxford. The 2012 conference was entitled, ‘Disciplines of Peace’. The 2012 conference themes included exploring different aspects of the field of peace studies: the relationship between academic research and the practice of peacemaking, peacebuilding and peacekeeping; the skills needed for these practices; the way in which established academic disciplines feed into our understanding of peace and peacebuilding; and the emerging discipline of peace studies itself. How can this area of study be further developed at Oxford?

“Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12: 29-31) This month’s theme will discuss love. The dictionary describes love as an emotion. We cannot serve God through emotion. Satan works through emotions all the time. We serve God through the heart. Love is therefore the fulfilling of the law. It is expressed or demonstrated through obedience to the law of God, and walking in the testimony of Jesus Christ.
