Inspired by the Korean drama fandom phenomenon of a side character who comes to take center stage, Second Lead Syndrome unites Kay and Emily, two doctoral students with a burning desire to discuss both k-pop and anthropology. To challenge the idea that academics should only be devoted to their research subjects, Second Lead Syndrome takes an ethically non-monogamous approach to combine smart talk with fervent fangirling. Our main squeeze is anthropology, but we believe an academic vocation is compatible with our undeniable attraction to k-pop and k-dramas. Each enhances the appreciation and understanding of the other. We ditch the notion of a guilty pleasure and turn it into true love.

One of the programme team’s favorite studies deals with “happiness”. Researchers analyzed and processed datasets compiled from song lyrics, blogs and U.S. president’s State of the Union speeches. The three most important findings: “Love” is the most frequently used word in song lyrics – but the “content level of happiness” in songs has been steadily decreasing since the 1960s, while the level of happiness in blogs, for example between 2005 and 2009, saw a noticeable increase – this was in close correlation with the age of the bloggers.

“It’s not about what the equipment does, it’s about what you can do through that equipment. That’s where the soul is.”
This week on Articulate, we’re joined by local Philadelphia D.J., WUSTA. He walks us through his introduction into the scene, the creativity involved in production, and how the scene’s progressed through the years. Never underestimate the Art of the Vibe.
Hey guess what?? Articulate is now streamable with video on Youtube- a new visual aid for articulation, to help you understand (or judge harshly) all the beautiful guests and their full aesthetic. Plus, of course, the gracious gift of laying eyes on your beautiful host each episode. I’m just here to give the people what they need.
Thanks for listening and have a good week fam. The world’s not over yet.

This is a paper on the history of farming in Ontario. It take the reader through the early settlement from 1783 to the modern period of 1888-1912. We see how farming and farm industries developed and how the population was distributed during these times. We see the trends of settlers moving into the Urban centers instead of rural and how the farm industries (making cheese, butter, wool, etc) move off the farm to the city factories. Excerpt: “The farmer’s wife in those days was perhaps the most expert master of trades ever known. She could spin and weave, make a carpet or a rug, dye yarns and clothes, and make a straw hat or a birch broom. Butter, cheese, and maple sugar were products of her skill, as well as bread, soap, canned fruits, and home-made wine. In those days the farm was a miniature factory or combination of factories.” (Summary by Esther)
