The News International Visiting Professorship of Broadcast Media was established in 1996, as part of a generous benefaction from Rupert Murdoch. It is an annual appointment and the Professor will give at least 4 lectures during the academic year (usually in January/February). 2010’s Visiting Professor is television and film producer Stephen Garrett, the man who brought Spooks and Life on Mars to our screens. Oxford alumnus Professor Garrett read jurisprudence at Merton College and is now Executive Chairman of Kudos Film and Television Ltd, one of Britain’s premier television production companies. His lectures explore the relationship between creativity and commerce through the prism of late 20th and early 21st century TV fiction on both sides of the Atlantic. The 2011 Professor, Matthew Engel, the journalist and sports writer, gave a series of lectures entitled ‘Please, mister, can we have our ball back? Launched in April 2006, this podcast, originally named the “About The Church” podcast, has journeyed through a remarkable evolution. Its inception saw me, your host, deeply rooted in fundamentalist, evangelical Christianity, even holding the title of associate pastor. However, over time, my spiritual perspectives have shifted. In 2011, the podcast took a turn when I broke ties with the traditional institution of the church and “performance-based Christianity,” prompting a rebranding of the show to ‘Encouraging Others Through Christ.’ As we journeyed through 2011 to 2020, the content leaned into orthodox, evangelical beliefs but explored the concept of having a relationship with God and fellowship with other Christians outside what is typically known as “the local church.” However, the year 2020 marked a new era for the EOTC podcast, and for me, as it saw the dawn of my ‘Spiritual Awakening’ and the initiation of my ‘Deconstruction Journey.’ This journey was an exploration of my relationship with God through the diverse spiritual experiences of people beyond the Orthodox Christian Worldview. While I still find The Bible inspiring, my spiritual lens now accommodates perspectives from Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Shamanism, New Age Spiritualism, and many other spiritual paths, infusing these learnings into our discussions since Episode 135. I still identify as a Christ Follower, but my contemporary interpretation of Christianity is seen as heretical and apostate by a large percentage of those from my religious upbringing. The name of the podcast remains unchanged as I believe in encouraging others through “Christ Consciousness” which is also known by many other names such as Universal Consciousness and Cosmic Consciousness to name a few. Are you on a Spiritual Awakening journey or stepping away from long-held beliefs through a Deconstruction process? The purpose of this podcast is to provide a safe space where we can map out our unique spiritual paths, cultivate a network of fellow seekers, and evolve together in our pursuit of self-discovery and spiritual awakening. ABOUT FATHER REID
The Rev. Dr. Larry Reid Hensarling began his service as the eighth Rector of All Saints’ on November 14, 2016. All Saints’ celebrated Fr. Reid’s institution on February 26, 2017. He was the Associate to the Rector of All Saints’ from April, 2003 to December, 2015 and Priest-in-Charge from January 6, 2016 to November 13, 2016.
He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and received a BS degree from LSU in 1978 and an MA from the University of Texas in 1981. Fr. Reid went to seminary in the summer of 1989 and graduated from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in May, 1992. Thereafter, he has served churches in Shreveport, Louisiana, Bennettsville, South Carolina, and Memphis, Tennessee. He completed a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida in December, 2010.
Fr. Reid loves the All Saints’ family, his sacramental duties, building adult Christian education, and leading the parish in spiritual growth through the faithful proclamation and teaching of the gospel. He supervises an excellent staff that loves and serves the people of All Saints’ faithfully. Fr. Reid is the Chaplain of the All Saints’ Doulos Chapter of the Order of St. Luke and loves to preach and teach the Bible. He particularly loves the Wednesday Morning Bible Study, Men’s Friday Morning Bible Study, and Wednesday Night Parish Academy. Additionally, he enjoys the Parent Class that meets twice a week.
