Guys and Food is for you and other guys who love food. You don’t have be a chef or work in the food business. You don’t have to be an expert or a gourmet. You may just enjoy cooking, you may like to explore history or other cultures through food, or you may just like to eat. You’ll probably like Guys and Food if: • Your idea of a power tool is an immersion blender. • You’re more interested in who won Top Chef than who won the latest sporting event in the national headlines. • You’re the type of guy who likes to talk about the last meal that you ate, the meal you are eating, and the next meal you’ll eat. • You covet your friend’s Viking Stove over his new sports car.

Green Connections Radio – Women Who Innovate With Purpose, & Career Issues, Including in Energy, Sustainability, Responsibil

    by

    Since Jul 15, 2015 18:50 UTC

One of the ‘6 Best Podcasts for Business Travelers’ per USA Today — engaging, enlightening and informative interviews with women innovators and leaders across sectors. Topics” Driving innovation, leadership, communications and career management. Features mostly women experts. “We now have an appetite for intervention. There’s a willingness because we are all at a point where the impacts are being felt so broadly…The urgency is being met with a will to act.”  Beth Gibbons on Green Connections Radio   Local leaders are managing the very real devastation to their communities and economies caused by extreme weather events, while much-needed resources from the federal government are tied up in political wrangling over whether climate change is real.   The people on the ground dealing with these effects are called “adaptation professionals,” so Green Connections Radio host Joan Michelson went to them to find out what’s happening on the ground. Listen to her startling conversation with Beth Gibbons, Executive Director of Adaptation Professionals for great insights on all sides of this life-threatening, economy-threatening, polarizing issue. You’ll learn: What life on the ground is like for the people needing to guide their communities through the very real ravages and economy-altering impact of climate change. The vital role that federal resources and research plays – and the short and long-term effects of not having it. How local communities are using “natural infrastructure” to protect themselves, and why those options are often more effective than traditional, “hard” infrastructure. Testing experimental solutions with lives and businesses on the line, and how to get what you need to make a difference, even incrementally. The role of the private sector in protecting their communities. Insightful career advice too! “The federal government is uniquely positioned, uniquely powerful and uniquely funded to create the kind of research we need right now about what are the risks, what are the challenges, what is the way forward, and the government should be held accountable to deliver those resources .” Beth Gibbons on Green Connections Radio   You’ll also want to listen to: Rawlings Miller of WSP on developing a climate resilience plan for your community or business. Kathy Baughman McLeod of the new Atlantic Council Resilience Center, on climate resilience preparation. Cindy Lubber, CEO of Ceres on mobilizing business sustainability.   Robin Currey, Prescott College, on creating a sustainable food supply. Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains, A by Isabella L. Bird

Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains, A by Isabella L. Bird

    by

    Since Apr 14, 2024 13:15 UTC

Isabella Bird began travelling while in her early twenties to help alleviate illness that had plagued her since childhood. She was a single woman in her early forties when she made her trek through the Rocky Mountains. A Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains details this fascinating account of her travels through a series of letters written to her sister, Henrietta. These letters are filled with beautiful, vivid descriptions of the scenery, the people she encountered, the way of life, and a mountain man named Jim Nugent, that was as rough as they come, but a complete gentleman with Ms. Bird. She has the distinction of being the first woman to become a member of the Royal Geographical Society in 1892. (Summary by Laura Caldwell)
