Spending most of my life in and out of prison I finally came home from doing a 13 year Federal Bid for Conspiracy to traffic 5 kilos or more of cocaine. Facing a life sentence, a new born baby on the line, I chose to take the Federal Government to trial. I share this story and many more plus the stories of American Citizens from all over this Nation. Let’s stop fixing churches, and start seeing the people God calls us to reach. For too long, The United Methodist Church has searched for a quick fix to help guide our discipleship efforts. We have been busy sending postcards, producing PowerPoint presentations and studying community demographics. While efforts like those may be important, they alone do not lead to disciple-making. The most essential step for making disciples of Jesus Christ is to immerse ourselves in the lives of the people who are right outside our doors, acknowledging that God calls us to have meaningful relationships in authentic, organic and consistent ways.
