The News International Visiting Professorship of Broadcast Media was established in 1996, as part of a generous benefaction from Rupert Murdoch. It is an annual appointment and the Professor will give at least 4 lectures during the academic year (usually in January/February). 2010’s Visiting Professor is television and film producer Stephen Garrett, the man who brought Spooks and Life on Mars to our screens. Oxford alumnus Professor Garrett read jurisprudence at Merton College and is now Executive Chairman of Kudos Film and Television Ltd, one of Britain’s premier television production companies. His lectures explore the relationship between creativity and commerce through the prism of late 20th and early 21st century TV fiction on both sides of the Atlantic. The 2011 Professor, Matthew Engel, the journalist and sports writer, gave a series of lectures entitled ‘Please, mister, can we have our ball back? Sport, the media, and the people’ First of four lectures exploring the relationship between creativity and commerce through the prism of late 20th and early 21st century TV fiction on both sides of the Atlantic.

Two and a half Asian friends — Ann, Chris, and Thai — come from very different flavors of the Asian American experience. They explore their pasts growing up Asian in the Western world, how that influences their place in the day-to-day of an overwhelmingly white culture, and hopefully figure out a thing or two about themselves. Part group therapy and part sounding board, Conversations With Two and a Half Asians hopes to share American life as viewed through a hyphenated Asian-American prism.

This podcast is simply a bunch of friends and family of the Drapers reviewing, commenting, discussing, and laughing about Movies, TV, Video Games, and Comics; whether it be a Marvel flick, a David Lynch film, or a Frank Miller Graphic Novel, we’ve got you covered! We cuss, we discuss, and there isn’t even a fuss! There is very explicit language and dark jokes within these videos/podcast episodes, these episodes aren’t meant for children. patreon.com/dapperdraper https://www.facebook.com/thedapperdraper?mibextid=ZbWKwL https://instagram.com/thedapperdraperpodcast?igshid=MzNlNGNkZWQ4Mg==

Interviews by and with people who grew up in and later left abusive cults. Starting with a focus on the Unification Church (also known as “the Moonies”), but also incorporating interviews with people who grew up in other totalist ideologies. What were their childhoods like? Why did they leave the cocoon of the cult? And what stories do they have to tell of the inner workings of the cult?
This and more are examined in detail by your host Elgen Strait, a grown man who grew up in the Moonies and left it not once, but twice.
In season we aspire to publish 2 Tuesdays in a row, then take a Tuesday off, then publish another 2 Tuesdays in a row. Sometimes… it’s erratic!
