    Black Looks Green on Me

    Black Looks Green on Me

    by

    Since Sep 24, 2018 19:45 UTC

Black Looks Green on Me is not about money. It’s about those things that do not appear as they seem. Like a green screen; you know, how two things can be contradictory and true at the same time. The naked eye sees an illusion but not what goes on behind the scenes.

    Heretics Standing at Sinai

    Heretics Standing at Sinai

    by

    Since Jan 23, 2023 21:09 UTC

Each time Jewish thinkers pushed beyond the bounds of ideas from the past, they were labeled heretics or apostates. But the word, “heretic” comes from the Latin meaning, “to choose,” and is “an opinion which disagrees with or conflicts with those who generally accept something as being authoritative, proper, or correct.” In other words, a Heretic is a person who has applied their own intellect and experience of the world to emerge with a Truth that explains the Universe. This is a long-winded way of stating that, at Heretics Unite!, we explore that space which may diverge from the teachings of your childhood Sunday School teacher about the God, traditions, myths and purpose of Judaism. Join us each episode and listen with an open mind to see what feels right and what is still not quite there for you. Better yet, reach out to Rabbi Jay TelRav to join him on an upcoming episode to discuss the ideas together.

I examine books published in a wide array of time periods, with a special emphasis on the early to middle 20th century, the ancient Greeks, and of course the present.

Pioneers, or The Sources of the Susquehanna, The by COOPER, James Fenimore

Pioneers, or The Sources of the Susquehanna, The by COOPER, James Fenimore

    by

    Since Jan 1, 1970 00:00 UTC

The Pioneers: The Sources of the Susquehanna; a Descriptive Tale is one of the Leatherstocking Tales, a series of five novels by American writer James Fenimore Cooper. The Pioneers was first of these books to be published (1823), but the period of time covered by the book (principally 1793) makes it the fourth chronologically. (The others are The Deerslayer, The Last of the Mohicans, The Pathfinder, and The Prairie.)The story takes place on the rapidly advancing frontier of New York State and features a middle-aged Leatherstocking (Natty Bumppo), Judge Marmaduke Temple of Templeton, whose life parallels that of the author’s father Judge William Cooper, and Elizabeth (the author Susan Cooper), of Cooperstown. The story begins with an argument between the Judge and the Leatherstocking over who killed a buck, and as Cooper reviews many of the changes to his fictional Lake Otsego, questions of environmental stewardship, conservation, and use prevail. The plot develops as the Leatherstocking and Chingachgook begin to compete with the Temples for the loyalties of a young visitor, Oliver Effingham. For all its strange twists and turns, ‘The Pioneers’ may be considered one of the first ecological novels in the United States.
