In the summer of 2000, God gave Anne Hibbert and Ruth Lockyer a unique vision to organise a regular event for women, particularly emphasising The Father’s Love. Streams in the Desert is the result – events for women who want to meet with God and find encouragement and spiritual refreshment. ‘The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.’ Isaiah 35:1, 2 Streams in the Desert is part of The Well Christian Healing Centre, an independent charity based in Royal Leamington Spa, funded by donations and its own activities. So much of what is said and written about Chicago’s South Side is negative. South Side Talks is changing that narrative. The South Side is more than headlines and statistics. South Side Talks brings you stories that represent ALL of the South Side. Stories of joy, pain, success, failure, humor, and everyday life. By telling these stories, it allows the residents of the South Side to be seen as they are and should be—as regular people who face life with the same ups and downs as anybody else.
In this episode, South Sider and founder of the Haitian American Museum, Elsie Hector Hernandez, shares her story of how a trip to Haiti made her determined to change the narrative told about her home country.
