“Don’t you remember?” They are three common words. Yet, when spoken too often, they’re cause for alarm. When your loved ones begin their journey into dementia, your own life-altering pilgrimage is set in motion. The path holds countless challenges including grief, despair, and joy: often all in a single day. The fear of not knowing what to do first can be overwhelming. For me, being proactive instead of reactive was empowering. Through these podcasts, I hope to give you tools in the form of resources and shared experiences, so you realize you’re not alone. I’m Theba. For the past 25 years, I have worked in TV News. I’m also the daughter of parents who lived in two different states, Illinois and Arkansas, when each were diagnosed with dementia in the same year. I entered into a season of intense anxiety and helplessness. I’d seen a few movies about older adults having memory problems and the sadness and difficulties their families faced, but I felt far removed from that reality. In my family cancer and old age claimed my relatives. The word dementia was new to me until an aggressive form of the disease took my father. Today I am the sole caregiver for my mother who is living with Alzheimer’s. Though very difficult, the struggles of caring for parents with dementia have also revealed great joy! I started sharing my experiences on television during the pandemic of 2020. In my heart, I knew there were many just like me trying to understand and adapt to caring for a loved one. The people I’ve met along the way have offered life-changing advice and support. My mission now is to encourage you on your own journey. I know God has been my strength and hope along the way and has led me to this new season of sharing so that you too can find comfort from those who do remember.

Every episode is divided into chapters and concludes with several key points to summarize the topic. We are always keen to receive your feedback on our podcasts, and we are accepting suggestions for additional topics. New episodes are published every Friday. ‘Surgery 101’ was created by Dr Parveen Boora and Dr Jonathan White, and is supported by the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta. Our 2010 series of podcasts are brought to you by the Undergrad Surgery Mobile Podcasting Studio Team which is: Jonathan, Jenni and Tracy, with the assistance of the Surgery 101 Experts of Edmonton. Note to experts: please note that these podcasts are only intended as brief introductions for medical students – we cannot delve into the more complex nuances of advanced surgery in a 10-minute podcast. This podcast is being created by the Granddaughter & Grandson (Louis & Felicia) of The Late Rev, J.D. Hunter who will keep his Legacy alive, and his tireless efforts and works in the Civil Rights Movement and his 70 plus years to The Teachings of Jesus Christ. J. D. was married to Lucile Chandler for over 70 years, and Felicia gives majority of her grandmother all the credit for keeping her own the right track and successfully finishing College. Both J. D. & Lucile kept her on the right track morally, spiritually, educationally, etc. and any and all things that a parent would do if they want the best for you in your life, Felicia was noted and known as the favorite grandchild especially by her grandmother, Lucile. The Numans received Pre-Marital Counseling, Marriage Counseling and he Officiated and Married by the late Rev. J. D. Hunter, and he inspired them so much that their second child (daughter) was named after him and her name is Joan’navia Davidason (J.D. Numan) Numan. Rev. J. D. had created an organization named “Crusade For Jesus Christ” in which they want to carry on and want their children (E’yona, Joan (J.D), & Louis Jr. (Junior Numan) to learn and know about their roots in order to carry it forward. They also want people that never heard of him to know about him and his life and apply it in their life. His (legacy) granddaughter Felicia states that her grandfather did not receive the proper credit in Selma, Al. People in position(s) did this own purpose because her grandfather was not a “yes” or “rubberstamp man” , but a principled man who taught her about let you decision(s) be directed by God and not man. Stay Tuned for many episode(s) to come about the Life and Legacy of the Late J. D. (Lucile) Hunter.
