Always on Mission: Evangelizing in Challenging Times

Always on Mission: Evangelizing in Challenging Times

    by

    Since Apr 9, 2020 19:00 UTC

Even in quarantine, we can still evangelize. In fact, the call to share the Gospel is heightened in times like this. Join the Archdiocese of Boston’s evangelization team for our first podcast, Always on Mission: Evangelizing in Challenging Times. Hosted by Tom Lyman and Rosemary Maffei, Always on Mission shares how the task of evangelization is being done and can be done, virtually, in the Archdiocese and beyond. Inspired by Cardinal Seán’s vision for a culture of evangelization and discipleship in parishes, Tom Lyman joined the Faith Formation and Missionary Discipleship team at the Archdiocese of Boston in 2014. A lover of education, history, foreign languages, sacred music, and liturgy, Tom brings a wealth of knowledge to the team, and always a fun fact or two! Tom lives in Brockton, Massachusetts with his wife and two children, and they can often be found exploring New England’s beautiful landscapes. In response to the Lord’s call to use her decade of leadership and organizational development experience to serve the Church directly in her daily work, Rosemary Maffei began working with the Archdiocese of Boston as an Evangelization Consultant. She’s a Boston girl through and through (though she spent some time living in Minnesota and Florida), and loves taking advantage of all the city has to offer (including Adoration at St. Clement’s Eucharistic Shrine). But no matter where she is, her love of the human person drives every interaction she has. New episodes posted every Monday, until the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29, 2020.

MCMP – Metaphysics and Philosophy of Language

MCMP – Metaphysics and Philosophy of Language

    by

    Since Feb 18, 2014 05:07 UTC

Mathematical Philosophy – the application of logical and mathematical methods in philosophy – is about to experience a tremendous boom in various areas of philosophy. At the new Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy, which is funded mostly by the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, philosophical research will be carried out mathematically, that is, by means of methods that are very close to those used by the scientists. The purpose of doing philosophy in this way is not to reduce philosophy to mathematics or to natural science in any sense; rather mathematics is applied in order to derive philosophical conclusions from philosophical assumptions, just as in physics mathematical methods are used to derive physical predictions from physical laws. Nor is the idea of mathematical philosophy to dismiss any of the ancient questions of philosophy as irrelevant or senseless: although modern mathematical philosophy owes a lot to the heritage of the Vienna and Berlin Circles of Logical Empiricism, unlike the Logical Empiricists most mathematical philosophers today are driven by the same traditional questions about truth, knowledge, rationality, the nature of objects, morality, and the like, which were driving the classical philosophers, and no area of traditional philosophy is taken to be intrinsically misguided or confused anymore. It is just that some of the traditional questions of philosophy can be made much clearer and much more precise in logical-mathematical terms, for some of these questions answers can be given by means of mathematical proofs or models, and on this basis new and more concrete philosophical questions emerge. This may then lead to philosophical progress, and ultimately that is the goal of the Center.

    Back Issue

    by

    Since Jun 26, 2020 20:50 UTC

Back Issue reminisces on moments in pop culture’s past that have shaped our present. Each episode brings personal reflection, incredible guests, and plenty of deep belly laughs. This season our co-pilot Tracy Clayton is taking a break, so Josh Gwynn has invited some very special guest co-hosts to share their perspective on some of the most formative stories in pop culture. We start out with not just another hair story but a conversation about the gendered politics of specific hairstyles as Josh sets out on a mission to get a silk press. We’ll also reflect on iconic award speeches, explore what our brains do on gossip, break down the backstories of Degrassi and Cheetah Girls, decide if Josh should become the next Black ex-pat, and discuss which multi-hyphenate performers are deserving of their flowers.
