Caught in a torrential downpour, she is taken in by a kindly old couple who, it turns out, have story of their own to tell. And Jee discovers yet again that things in the Underworld are not always what they seem.

“Assam & Darjeeling” is the story of two children who set out to rescue their dead mother from the Underworld — a nightmare place where the mythological desperately tries to keep pace with the world above. The children encounter cell-phone carrying demons, forgotten deities from defunct pantheons waiting tables, and one nasty character called Juniper who takes a particular, personal interest in their quest. A terrific story full of references to mythology, folklore, Dante’s ‘Inferno’, and classic fairy tales, “Assam & Darjeeling” follows in the tradition of writers like Ray Bradbury, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, and Philip Pullman.
