Though Sydel Curry-Lee became known in the digital space for entrepreneurship, athleticism, and tastemaking in the beauty community, her mission online has always been to surface the topic of mental health to the forefront of conversation. Having struggled with her own mental health for several years, Sydel aims to de-stigmatize the discussion around mental health and offer first hand advice on how we can all discuss the subject better as well as things we can do to improve our mental health. BECAUSE LIFE centers around an open and honest discussion amongst Sydel, a mental health professional, and listener input regarding topics ranging from confronting anxieties to being a supportive ally when someone close to you is struggling with their mental health. This podcast also shines a light on the under-discussed topic of mental health within the BIPOC community and how that brings with it its own set of unique struggles.

Live Planted is a weekly Podcast about living a practical vegan lifestyle. Alyssa, the show’s host, is a Midwestern girl who felt the need to create a space based on living a plant based life in the easiest way possible. The show goes into health, wellness, activism, environmentalism, cruelty free practices, sustainability, animal rights, and how to make it all work while living a ‘regular’ life. Live Planted aims to inspire and educate listeners by letting you in on a little secret: I don’t have it all figured out either, but here are some things I’ve learned along the way. During the show I talk with awesome guests, like former Mtv VJ Lauren Toyota, Cara Livermore of Chickpea Magazine, and Hannah Howlett of ‘High Carb Hannah’ Youtube fame. The show has hosted vegan artists, tiny house builders, bakers, professional vegan athletes, plant based recipe creators, movie directors, health coaches, dads, and many more. Part of the show is spent breaking down topics like ‘soy: good or bad?’, ‘the realities of fish’, or ‘how to travel while vegan’. There’ll be ways to go vegan at your own pace, and ways to stay vegan for the long term. Join me in this pursuit to connect with like minded people. You can find the full show notes and more at LivePlanted.com.

Millennial, Gen-X, 20-something? Whatever you want to call them, millennials are judged and ridiculed for being lazy, entitled and narcissistic. Pay close attention while Ashley and Anthony rant and rave about how that is only half true along with their views on an array of other topics. They may not have 40 years of experience but to their advantage they have the internet, education and a dash of sarcasm to bring you the views of their generation. If you feel like you are stuck between maturity and actively trying to make mistakes (you know, for educational purposes) these two got you covered. Gen-X is just overwhelmed with misrepresentation, burdened with under appreciation and its time to fight back! Have a seat on the couch with these two and experience their Quarter life Crisis with honesty, a touch of sarcasm, and unequivocal candor as they break down the walls of work, school, music & entertainment, sex, feelings, dating, emotions, and much much more! They may be young and inexperienced but they will be damned if they don’t tell you exactly how they are dealing with it. Get committed every Thursday night at 8pm at Zenlive.tv

The Scriptures Are Real (TSAR) with Kerry Muhlestein is a podcast where we look at elements of the scriptures that have become real to us. We interview both experts (people with language, archaeological, historical backgrounds, etc.), and lay folks, and explore times when the scriptures became real to them. This is done from the viewpoint of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe that there is real power in the scriptures and that as they become more real we can better apply them to our lives and draw more power from them. If you listen to this podcast you will learn all kinds of interesting background information that will help you understand and learn more from the scriptures. We believe it will allow you to add real power to your life. My gratitude to my co-host Lamar Newmeyer. Also to my friend Rich Nicholls, who composed the introductory music.

In this series, I will be reading mentors texts and providing you and your students some quickwriting and/or discussion-based writing ideas. Writing can seem very challenging, especially to students who haven’t had a ton of practice. So, providing short, consistent and relatively low-risk opportunities to write can make all the difference in eliminating the intimidation factor that often comes with on-demand writing. I usually like my students to start our sessions by beginning with a quickwrite or, what I like to call, Writing into the Day.
