    Tech Won’t Save Us

    Tech Won’t Save Us

    by

    Since Apr 12, 2020 00:00 UTC

Silicon Valley wants to shape our future, but why should we let it? Every Thursday, Paris Marx is joined by a new guest to critically examine the tech industry, its big promises, and the people behind them. Tech Won’t Save Us challenges the notion that tech alone can drive our world forward by showing that separating tech from politics has consequences for us all, especially the most vulnerable. It’s not your usual tech podcast.

Devin Mitchell and Mark Lieberman discuss the latest developments in popular culture, from the movie of the week to the TV show of the moment.

Devin and Mark, recording in the same room for the first time in 17 months (!!!), celebrate the safe reopening of movie theaters and take stock of two movies they saw together (!!!) in Los Angeles: Old and Zola.

(Note: This episode was recorded in late July, before recent urges in cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19.)

    Back to the Movies: 3:28 – 17:00
    Old: 17:09 – 35:54
    Zola: 36:00 – end

Read the (bad) Kara Swisher piece dismissing the excitement around movie theaters, and the Rolling Stone article upon which Zola is based.

    WoW or Gold Brainstormz

    by

    Since Dec 25, 2014 11:04 UTC

Description post 2022: IF I record any new episodes I will dive into topics that go way beyond gaming, but always having gamers in mind since it’s a very diverse crowd with people in all walks of life. Which means that most gamers won’t be exposed to anything near the kind of perspectives I would choose to dive into. Especially since I do it because I love it and not for money or fame With love, Grayz Description prior to 2022: The WoW or Gold Brainstormz podcast is based on a hardcore mindset that stems from being into multiple competitive hobbies for 2 decades as well having some very interesting experiences through gaming. Since becoming a father of 3 my blocks of time to play have been decreased, but my mentality has hardened. It’s a walk n talk podcast recorded when I have a moment. I discuss WoW and whatever else comes to mind. There is no schedule for the show. I release episodes when I have things to talk about or when I get really fed up with things. Discontent is a great motivator.

Join Gareth Stack & James Van De Waal for a light hearted but in depth discussion of theatre, from classic French farce, to post modern drama.

    Good Times Great Movies

    by

    Since May 20, 2015 16:37 UTC

Every other Friday, Doug McCambridge and Jamie Lorello discuss a film from the 1980s. Some are films we haven’t seen since we were kids and offer a fresh perspective. Others are films we’ve never seen before but probably should have. Do they hold up? Are they classics? Or would these films just be better off having been lost to time?

Heroin Buttsex and Lord of the Rings

    by

    Since Apr 29, 2019 22:00 UTC

On this evidence-driven debate show, panelists argue controversial theories behind hit songs—from rap to rock to showtunes—exploring three grand themes that weave through all of pop music: Heroin, Buttsex, and Lord of the Rings. But what is “Eye of the Tiger” ACTUALLY about? For that matter, what is Sade’s 1985 hit “Sweetest Taboo” really about? — Heroin? Buttsex? Either seems credible. Perhaps it’s written from the perspective of the wizard Saruman, exulting in the power gained from his secret fealty to the dark lord Sauron. Our goal is to inspire consensus-driven debate, while encouraging a community of pop music and LotR criticism, interpretation, and appreciation.Call 424-209-2071 to contribute, or email at HBSLOTR@gmail.com
