    Dreaming of Deliverance

    Dreaming of Deliverance

    Since Oct 11, 2009 14:42 UTC

Five years ago when Lindsay Paulson, a naive college student and talented distance runner, was 18, she was convicted of drug smuggling. Now, halfway through a 10-year prison sentence, she begins having what seem to be dreams, in which she leaves her cell in the night and visits another reality called Trae. Dreaming of Deliverance tells of Lindsay’s experiences both in Trae, where she finds herself among people enslaved by terrifying creatures, and in prison where she tries to make sense of what’s happening in her sleep: Is she actually escaping from prison somehow or is she losing her mind?

    Remnants : An Audio Drama

    Remnants : An Audio Drama

    by

    Since May 9, 2024 15:30 UTC

A dark fantasy thriller audio drama.

When we die, the remnants of us return to the First and Last Place…

Remnants is a dark fantasy thriller audio drama following the Apprentice as he learns how to read remnants under the frustrating supervision of Sir. Remnants are seemingly innocuous objects – a broken pocket watch; a steel thimble; a silk scarf – but when the Apprentice looks closely, he sees how each one holds the remnants of someone’s life story.

Each week the Apprentice reads a new remnant, following that person’s journery beginning to end. When he’s done, he must make a judgement; shelve or discard. But he doesn’t know what the criteria is or what the consequences of such a judgement might be.

The more remnants the Apprentice reads, the more we begin to understand the magnitude of the task he has been set. And the more both we, and the Apprentice himself, wonder why it is him who has been chosen to do it.

With every week, a new mystery. With every new mystery, a terrible choice.

Find out more about Remnants here.

Remnants is a part of the Rusty Quill Network.

    Time Crystal 2

    Since Jan 21, 2010 08:23 UTC

The story so far: When Irish school teacher Sam Fitzpatrick and CERN scientist Michael Zhang are absorbed by a black hole, they find themselves outside the Universe on a planet populated by gigantic insect-like Entroilians and Argolaths. The Universe is merely part of their elaborate lifecycle. Michael breaks the crystal machinery surrounding it and fragments fall into the Universe where time stops everywhere except near these crystals. Sam can talk to people who hold crystal, and the insects think they can fix the machinery and restart time, so he tells his step-daughter Catriona O’Brien to collect all the fragments and bring them down the time tunnel. But handsome Hungarian entrepreneur Alex Karolyi knows that firefighter George Gabor will not allow crystals to be removed from CERN. When George tries to catch them Alex flees and Catriona tries to fly into the Time Tunnel. So begins an epic adventure that will take Catriona on a journey back through the whole history of the Universe. Time Crystal is a timeless adventure-romance including domains both great and small you have never experienced before. Few works of fiction have ever encompassed such a range of ideas and environments, such sheer imaginative scale.

Grimms’ Fairy Tales by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm

Grimms’ Fairy Tales by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm

    by

    Since Aug 26, 2020 00:00 UTC

Talking animals, wicked stepmothers, valiant tailors, cruel witches! Sixty-two stories that feature familiar figures like Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Rumplestiltskin, The Twelve Dancing Princesses and Snow-White and Rose Red as well as lesser-known characters like The White Snake, Sweetheart Roland and Clever Elsie are contained in this volume of Grimms’ Fairy Tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The original volume published in 1812 contained more than 85 tales and this number kept increasing till it got to the seventh edition which contained more than two hundred stories. Initially the authors meant the collection to be read not just by children, but also adults and was meant to be a compilation of folk-tales that had been passed down orally for generations. The first edition was packed with scholarly foot-notes and interesting information about the cultural connotations of each story. Later, the authors were persuaded to change the format and make it suitable for children. However, many of these stories were found by publishers to be far too gruesome for young readers. Objectionable passages and scenes of violence were removed and replaced with less fearsome ones. The scholarly foot notes were completely eliminated, making the book just a collection of fairy tales that a child might enjoy. The present collection contains some of the most famous and well loved fairy tales that generations of children have enjoyed. The universal themes of fairy tales which include the triumph of good over evil, courage, common-sense, humility, love, the downfall of pride, greed, envy and laziness all find voice in the characters of Grimms’ Fairy Tales. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were two brothers born in Frankfurt in the old German kingdom of Hesse. They studied law, but were passionately interested in folklore. Jacob was also a philologist studying language. Though Wilhelm’s ill-health made traveling difficult, they toured Germany and neighboring European countries in the 18th century documenting folk tales commonly recounted by word of mouth in small villages and communities. Their interest in preserving these historical examples of native wisdom and culture has made it possible for modern readers to enjoy these age old stories that were told and retold by countless grandparents to generations of grandchildren. Most of the stories retain the lyrical qualities of oral tradition and are meant to be read aloud, creating a magical world for children. This treasure trove of stories has become an essential part of the bed-time ritual of story-telling for both parents and children all over the world. More great books at LoyalBooks.com
