Essentially, I’m a guy who lived 35 years of his life believing that if you were basically a good person, you’d probably go to heaven. It was August of 1992 and my childhood best friend invited us to Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara. After that, we never missed a Sunday service or a mid-week service. This podcast is the product of a lot of people asking me a lot of questions over the years. I’ve had a lot of encouragement that these have been a blessing or been used as a tool to converse with non-believers. I hope this encourages you to dig deeper for the hidden beauty for yourself. Blessings, CB

Welcome to Immerse: Poets! A 16 Week Immerse Bible Reading (and listening!) Experience Featuring the full New Living Translation (NLT) Bible version of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Lamentations Immerse: Poets is the fifth of six volumes in Immerse: The Bible Reading Experience. Poets presents the poetical books of the First Testament in two groupings, dividing the books between songbooks (Psalms, Lamentations, Song of Songs) and wisdom writings (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Job). These writings all reflect the daily, down-to-earth faith of God’s people as they live out their covenant relationship with him in worship and wise living. The Immerse Bible Series is the proud winner of the prestigious Bible of the Year award from the ECPA Christian Book Awards. Immerse: The Reading Bible is specially crafted for a distraction-free listening and reading experience, helping you dive in and get immersed in Scripture. You’ll have a great experience using Immerse by yourself. But for an even richer experience, try reading with friends. Immerse: The Bible Reading Experience is an invitation to a different kind of community interaction with the Bible. Less like a Bible study, more like a book club. – 8 or 16-week Bible listening plans take you through a large section of the Bible like the New Testament or the Torah – Meet once a week for a free-flowing discussion about the text – Wrestle with questions and celebrate ‘aha!’ moments together Nothing impacts spiritual growth more than spending time in Scripture. Immerse removes many of the barriers that make Bible reading difficult and invites communities to become transformed together through the power of God’s word.

Anywho… Listen in as Lydia Zipporah shares (from her perspective) stories and commentary from this divine anthology of epic proportions BUT ALSO some topical life things because the two are so much closer than they may often seem.

The phone hacking scandal that closed News of the World was big, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. At the bottom of that iceberg of ‘dark arts’ – hacking, burglary, bugging, and bribing bent cops – is the body of Daniel Morgan. It’s been described by an Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police as “one of the most disgraceful episodes in the entire history of the Metropolitan Police Service.” Over the three decades since Daniel was killed, five failed police investigations and an ongoing panel inquiry, his has become the most investigated murder in British history. The story moves from back streets of London, through the highest echelons of Scotland Yard, to the offices of Rupert Murdoch’s best selling newspapers, to the doors of Number Ten Downing Street. If you haven’t heard this story, ask yourself, why?

Among the most “banned” books in the United States, Uncle Tom’s Cabin; or, Life Among the Lowly is a novel by American author Harriet Beecher Stowe which treats slavery as a central theme. Stowe was a Connecticut-born teacher at the Hartford Female Academy and an active abolitionist. The novel is believed to have had a profound effect on the North’s view of slavery. In fact, when he met Harriet Beecher Stowe, President Lincoln is said to have commented, “So you’re the little lady whose book started the Civil War.” First published on March 20, 1852, the story focuses on the tale of Uncle Tom, a long-suffering black slave, the central character around whose life the other characters—both fellow slaves and slave owners—revolve. The novel depicts the harsh reality of slavery while also showing that Christian love and faith can overcome even something as evil as enslavement of fellow human beings. (summary by Wikipedia and John Greenman) Note From the Reader: The listener is about to enter a world rich with diverse characters. In order to differentiate between the characters, the reader has given each, his/her own voice. As an adult male reader, however, the reader’s representation of women and children will, necessarily be less than adequate. He asks for your indulgence.
