Captivating, this word alone defines what it feels like when your senses go on a magical journey while you groove the sounds of D ROYY. Roy Restrepo, better known by his followers as D ROYY, was born in Bogota, Colombia of Chinese and Colombian descent. Music was instilled in his mind since birth as his older brother was a known guitarist in the Bogota Orchestra. However, guitars and strings were not what caught this artist attention. He only heard the drums. At the tender age of 10 he picked up his first set of drumsticks and never looked back. His influences range from heavy metal bands such as Metallica and Megadeth, to Latin pop artists like Juanes and MANA, making his sound and delivery truly unparalleled. His journey into the music world began at 15 years of age as he toured the upper east coast with his second band The Troublemakers. The drums were his passion, yet something was missing. It was time for a change. After a deep exploration into the house music scene his creative and musical fire was reignited but with a new direction, combining the skill of a drummer with the allure of being a DJ/producer. ‘07 was his introduction into the DJ world putting together his own events at various venues throughout the New Jersey area. In ’09 he exploded into the NY house scene tearing up venues all over Queens and Manhattan. Places include Soel Lounge, System, Play Lounge for the Queens Music Festival, Pure Nightclub, Z Hotel, Glazz and more and thats just Queens. In Manhattan D36, Pacha, WIP, Greenhouse, Mansion, Le’Souk, Branch, Dream Hotel to name a few. From Dream Nightclub in the esteemed Hamptons area to Mekka in SOBE back to Elite Nightclub in Stamford, CT this artist has kept the people moving and the energy unmatched. His understanding of the connection between someones vibe and the collective vibe of an event distinguish him from others and gives him an insight into how to alter those vibes and bring a party to life. Music is only the beginning. At the moment D ROYY is focusing on expanding his creativity through video editing and producing as well as collaborating with the top artists in his and other genres. We aim to educate and inform New Zealanders about meningitis and septicaemia and the diseases that cause them – pneumococcal disease and meningococcal disease. In 2018 there were 120 confirmed cases of invasive meningococcal disease in New Zealand, and 10 people died. Across the series, recorded in late April 2019, we talk with individuals who have survived meningitis and families who have experienced the heartbreak of losing a loved one to meningitis. We also talk with medical professionals and government representatives about the disease, the 2018 epidemic in Northland, and the available vaccines. Dr Talemaitoga is a GP, currently working between Christchurch and Manukau, Auckland. He has a wealth of experience working with people in New Zealand as well as around the Pacific. He previously held the position of Chief Advisor for Pacific Health and Clinical Director Community Health Service Improvement within the Ministry of Health. In this discussion, we focus on the disproportionately high impact of meningococcal disease on our Maori and Pacific Island communities and the strategies that are necessary to protect our loved ones.
