You, Me, Empathy: Sharing Our Mental Health Stories

You, Me, Empathy: Sharing Our Mental Health Stories

    by

    Since Jan 1, 2018 14:00 UTC

You, Me, Empathyis the official podcast of The Feely Human Collective. Join the community at FeelyHuman.co/membership.

On this show, we explore the struggles, the triumphs, the brights and the darks we face as humans trying to be human on this wondrous and overwhelming pale blue dot.

You, Me, Empathy was created so that we can be witness to our collective humanity through the lens of empathy, vulnerability, and emotional curiosity. We aim to destigmatize mental health, lead fiercely with our hearts, feel our feelings without shame and judgment, and share our courageous stories so that others may feel less alone and more connected as feely humans.

You, Me, Empathy is a brave place designed to inspire the beauty in each of us, because each of us, in all of our kaleidoscopic parts, makes up a magical whole that deserves to be seen.

Created and hosted by Nōn Wels (he/him), feely human, writer, and doggo lover.

The You, Me, Empathy podcast is for informational and/or entertainment purposes only and is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

    by

    Since Sep 17, 2010 17:45 UTC

All That Can Be Shaken by Essie Collins (a pseudonym) is a moving true story of a family’s struggle with a tragedy that shakes their lives and their faith. Essie’s idyllic life is torn apart when her once joyful and exuberant husband, Stephen, is stricken with a deep depression. His suicidal tendencies force Essie to seek professional help. After shock treatment and a barrage of medications, Stephen becomes severely mentally ill, diagnosed as bi-polar and schizophrenic. Essie’s story will take you through the horrors her family endures as they become prey to a society that is largely unsympathetic and unequipped to help. Produced by Vic Zarley and narrated by Eva Zarley. Theme song for this audio book is “Silver Shine” by Dan-O.

Coping with Depression – for iPod/iPhone

“You just want to step out of it, to step out of the whole race, the whole business. The monstrosity of life overwhelms you.” Following a nervous breakdown in 1995, actor and journalist Stephen Fry discovered he was suffering from bi-polar disorder – commonly known as manic depression. Symptoms of fear and sadness (often classed as ‘anxiety’ and ‘depression’ if they are diagnosed) are the most common ‘mental disorders’ in Britain that people seek counselling for. This collection of videos looks at what can happen when people are overwhelmed by such profound feelings of sadness that they can’t carry on with their everyday lives. Fry, along with Trisha Goddard and engineer Jim Brown, share their personal struggles and experiences with diagnosis and drug use, giving us a glimpse into the journeys they have taken. This material forms part of The Open University course D240 Counselling: exploring fear and sadness ‘The Secret life…’ footage appears courtesy of RTF and BBC.

This unique podcast explores the intersection of food and grief. Mother-daughter cohosts Bobbie Comforto and Zahra Tangorra are joined by a special guest who shares their personal experience with loss, grief, and heartbreak, and how food factored into their journey. Bobbie has worked as a psychotherapist specializing in bereavement and trauma for over 30 years, but before entering the world of grief counseling Bobbie was a culinary entrepreneur. Zahra Tangorra is a Brooklyn-based chef and restaurant consultant. They share a deep love of food and a personal understanding of its connection to grief. Change and loss are inevitable in all our lives. The relationships that we as humans have surrounding food and loss are universal and relatable across different cultures, beliefs, and lifestyles. It is our individual adaptation to the things we cannot control that makes us unique. Processing exposes and digests these commonalities and differences in each episode. Life’s a Wreck, So Here’s a Podcast

    Life’s a Wreck, So Here’s a Podcast

    by

    Since Jul 5, 2019 22:00 UTC

Mental health isn’t just mental illness, it’s in everything we do. There are ups and downs, it’s beautiful and messy, and at the end of the day, life’s a wreck. Thing is, that wreck is what makes us ‘US’ and isn’t that worth celebrating? A layered and rich wreck of emotions, nuance and stories, all culminating in very human experiences. We believe that conversations surrounding mental health deserve to leave the tall shadow of stigma and have their moment in the limelight. Life’s a Wreck aims to be a museum of mental health, a parlour to the people, a place to celebrate all things mental, curating the stories of others and examining a world hidden behind stigma with a joyous curiosity and passion for storytelling. Join Kyle Moore around our proverbial campfire to share stories about the world we live in looked at through the lens of mental health. This is Life’s a Wreck.
