    Since Mar 23, 2021 22:00 UTC

Longing to go to Italy? Listen in and we will take you there with stories, from professional guides, of wonderful places that will make your imagination come alive. As a traveler, I always felt that there was something missing when I would go on walking tours to see special sites and monuments. I wanted fire works!Remember in your life when you had that exceptional teacher, that you never forgot, because they made it fun to learn? That’s what I wanted and I went out in search of those people to built my company on that very premise! Now, we have been taking people around all parts of Italy for over 20 years. We started in Rome (where I am a licensed guide) and have expanded to Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Florence, and Venice. Something that makes Through Eternity Tours special is that the staff and guides, who work with us, are exceptional. We have built very strong bonds together and we are all a great support network for each other. So many times I thought to myself that during these enthusiastic conversations that we have, wouldn’t it be great to share this with other people? That is why we have created TE Talks to keep the stories going to keep your dreams of Italy alive.

These are tales that reveal one family’s experience as immigrant- and first-generation Italian-Americans. With this podcast Marco shares these entertaining memories with a broader audience. Now illuminated with conversations that add details and tangential stories, the episodes elicit the laughter and tears that always resulted when he treated his family, gathered around a meal, to a sweet memory or two.

    by

    Since May 14, 2021 13:00 UTC

Letters to Italy by Sara Marinelli is an eighth-part series about the impact of Covid-19 on Italian immigrants in the Bay Area. How did Italian expats feel when they received news of their country being the epicenter of the pandemic in the Western world, and how did it affect their distant relationship to home? At the intersection of personal memoir and documentary, each episode features conversations with an Italian expat to hear how the pandemic reshaped their life in the U.S., and how they tried to remain connected to Italy in a time of crisis and forced separation. Conversations bring up questions of belonging, resilience, community, and how to transform challenges into possibilities.

Travel: In Situ with Darius Arya

Travel: In Situ with Darius Arya

    by

    Since Dec 21, 2018 10:33 UTC

Travel: In Situ is a podcast hosted by archaeologist Darius Arya. Each episode finds Arya on location discovering and uncovering elements of the past – from the back streets of Rome to the bazaar of Cairo, from the Agora of Athens to the Medina of Tunis, and from the Vatican Museums to the Roman emperor Diocletian’s palace of Split. Episodes drop each Monday!

Diocletian is the third century emperor that brought the Empire back from the brink of collapse. After generations of uncertainly, his will, administration, military prowess and ruthless drive established a new period of calm that rippled through the Roman empire. Just consider the tetrarchy ruling system, new management of provinces, Edict of Prices, and Great (Christian) Persecution! And when it was all said and done he retired in his bespoke fortified villa that became the core of the later town of Split, Croatia. So richly preserved that it is a noted UNESCO site and also the location for many a scene in Game of Thrones. Walk the streets of this historic site and explore the archaeology, art, and ancient history beneath with Darius on his recent visit!

    The Roman World

    The Roman World

    by

    Since Oct 10, 2012 23:39 UTC

The Roman World introduces students to the society, literature and art of ancient Rome, through a study of its major historical and literary figures, such as Julius Caesar, Augustus, Nero, Virgil and Ovid. We shall look at Rome’s place in the ancient Mediterranean world, and its connections with ancient Greece and other cultures, such as Egypt and Gaul. Through almost constant warfare, Rome accumulated an enormous Mediterranean empire, and this subject will investigate how this shaped Roman culture, through such topics as the acquisition of slaves and the ability to import luxury objects. We shall also see how the civil conflicts of the first century BCE affected Rome and Roman identity, leading to Caesar, Pompey and others engaging in propaganda wars, as seen through competitive monumental building, and to some self-questioning in the literature of the period. Towards the end of the semester, we shall look at Rome’s lasting influence, and the way that we continue to represent Rome in book and film.
