These podcasts are the captured pastor work in and around Bethany Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Virginia. Article 7 refers to part of the Augsburg Confession, one of the founding documents of the Lutheran Church, and it answers the question “what is a church?” The church is where God’s gifts are given to the people, and that is what this podcast is all about – strengthening God’s family with the gift of His Word.

Do you have a love/hate relationship with the Church? Does it inspire great joy and hope along with utter sorrow and frustration? Is it a place you cherish and also leaves you wanting for more? As a woman who holds near her Pentecostal formation and the word of grace presented to her in Lutheran theology, Rev. Leila M. Ortiz identifies as a Luthercostal pastor committed to threading messy, muddy waters of hard truths for the sake of theological and soul liberation for all. Join Leila each Wednesday as she boldly celebrates and critique the place she, and so many of you, love so dearly. The hope and purpose of this podcast is that we might engage in difficult conversations that lead to the co-creation of safe and sacred spaces our souls yearn for most.

“What is the gospel?” Responses continuously return to an inward-looking faith instead of a faith that clings externally to the astonishing mercy of Christ Jesus, who took the sin of the world into Himself on the cross and breathed out His life for and onto His creation. In this act of sacrifice, Jesus is indeed the sacrificial Lamb who takes away the sin of the world. Through His resurrection, Jesus Christ has given His promise of eternal life in Him.
