Hitting Pan
A beauty journalist and an 11 year-old prodigy podcasting makeup and skincare.
Welcome to Glow Girls! Emily and Kristen are two professional makeup artists from the Philadelphia area who are going to share some of their tips, tricks and experiences from inside the makeup industry with you. Whether you are a makeup professional, makeup enthusiast or just the occasional makeup wearer, the Glow Girls have something for everyone!
In today’s episode, Kristen and Emily break down what it is like to work for yourself. If you’re thinking about becoming your own boss, listen to this episode for all of the PROS and CONS of working for yourself! Don’t fret, because it’s not for everyone. Nothing is permanent, and you can always go back to working for someone if it doesn’t work out. Both Kristen and Emily work for themselves and they love it!
The Glow Girls start with (1:30) all the cons, from having no set routine and no days off, to self-accounting to financial struggles (6:40). Nobody can tell you what to do except for yourself. The best way to combat mental and physical health issues through self-care are also discussed in a previous episode linked HERE!
The pros outweigh the cons (7:20) by being able to make your own schedule, having off during nontraditional hours, having people work under you, getting to choose your own clientele and customers, and setting your own prices.
Today’s question of the day (12:40) asks “What is the most overrated makeup product?” Tune in to this episode to find out Kristen and Emily’s answers.
Thanks for listening!

The Happy Healthy Hairstylist podcast is the hairstylists guide to a happier, healthier, and wealthier life. My name is Shelby Bettencourt, I am THE happy happy healthy queen bee! I own and run a salon in Miami, Florida and KNOW what its like to “forget” about self care as I care for everyone else in my life. I made the mistakes, overbooked, underpaid, full of resent, and was a slave to the trade… then I WOKE UP and changed what didn’t make me feel good and what was no longer serving me. I now coach stylists to not make the mistakes I made, and I’m here and happy to help you too! If you are in the beauty industry and want to better yourself both mentally and physically then this podcast is for you! You will learn the importance of taking care of your mind and body behind the chair. How to decompress, protect your energy, and have a better relationship with food, water, and money. As well as learning the structures and building blocks to growing and maintaining a successful beauty business.
As a salon owner one of the hardest and most emotional things that happens is when a stylist or staff member leaves.
Sadness, anger, resentment, and relief are some of the emotions that can pop up. So, what do you do with these feelings? How do you go about your day, realign your business, and start the hiring process without it being stressful?
glad you asked…
Here’s some advice I would give and lessons I have learned.
