Opioid addiction is a national public health crisis that affects individuals and families regardless of their age, race, or income. The statistics are overwhelming – more than 130 people die from opioid addiction every day (1). Sadly, stigma and fear of judgment often discourage people from seeking help or even talking about their experiences with opioid misuse. But, there is hope. Recovery is possible. “Someone You Know” is a grassroots public awareness effort of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation to reduce the stigma of opioid addiction and inspire hope in our communities. Tune in to this podcast to hear inspiring stories that challenge stigma and humanize the disease of addiction. Heather Major, Manager of Programs for the Independence Blue Cross Foundation, will guide you through conversations that explore the pain of addiction and the joys of a life in recovery. Make sure to subscribe, and check back in May for more stories from someone you know. Wherever you are on your journey—whether you’re struggling with addiction, grieving the loss of someone, or supporting someone in recovery—help is available. by

    Since Mar 30, 2017 20:20 UTC

Pain Reframed is a podcast for physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapy assistants and other health care providers about pain and how pain is managed in our society. Pain is a large issue right now and we will bring powerful and helpful insights on how we can manage pain in a much more efficient and effective way. Pain Reframed is committed to changing language and practice patterns across disciplines and points of care in order to reduce the unnecessary suffering that results from the propagation of misinformation, insufficient understanding of the pain experience, and the over-medicalization of pain in society. Dr. Tim Flynn and Dr. Jeff Moore will share their expertise, as well as the expertise from others in the medical and psychological fields, about pain management and our roles in dealing with pain. We want to create a sustainable, multi-disciplinary, international conversation on pain.

Eve’s been struggling since her retirement. Cancelling appointments, forgetting simple things…sleeping an awful lot. Her three kids are worried. When the oldest decides to check in on Eve before heading off to an important work dinner, the simple visit turns into something much bigger, and darker, than anyone could have predicted. Through found audio – phone calls, Facetime, Skype, live social media posts and recordings caught by unwitting bystanders – listen in as Abi, Kay and Joey work with, and sometimes against, each other as they try to piece together what happened…and who’s to blame.
