The Borough We Became: Queens Residents On Life During COVID-19

The Borough We Became: Queens Residents On Life During COVID-19

    by

    Since May 25, 2020 20:55 UTC

On Thursday, April 9th, 2020 the Queens Memory Project launched a COVID-19 documentation project in Queens, New York. The project, found at https://queenslib.org/covid, has the active support of a broad coalition of cultural organizations and citizen historians organized to document this extraordinary moment in Queens history. These are the stories shared by Queens residents who are living, working, learning, and helping one another during this unprecedented time.

This episode of the Queens Memory Project Podcast was conceived and produced by the Queens Public Library Teen Advisory Board. The Queens Public Library Teen Advisory Board is a yearlong program were members take the lead in creating and implementing a project that helps their peers and community. This year’s TAB decided to work on a podcast to interview the voices they felt have been left out of the conversations around Covid-19. After much discussion, TAB members decided to highlight the voices of their peers and their experiences with quarantine and distance learning. After spending the first half of the school year learning the basics of podcasting, members worked together to write the interview questions and were responsible for interviewing, producing, and hosting the episode. Once they learned the basics of creating a podcast episode, the TAB members set out to interview people across generations and life experiences to ask the question “How are you doing?” Answers varied widely and touched upon the topics of virtual school, the disruption of daily routines, new skills learned during lockdown, and social media use. Interviewees often chose to highlight the positives of their experiences in quarantine.

    Gannon MusiQ

    Gannon MusiQ

    by

    Since Jan 21, 2012 17:25 UTC

First off, I would just like to congratulate you on your excellent taste in musiQ. Secondly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to listen to my mixes. I put a lot of time into these in hopes that you will listen and enjoy as much as I do. I put together these very detailed traQ listing is for several reasons. Reason #1: It frustrates me to no end when I get a promo CD & have no way to find out the artist, traQ & remix names. Reason #2: If you’re listening to my mixes, odds are… I like you. I would like to go out and have some cocktails with you, on me. Reason #3: I wanted everyone to know exactly what genres of musiQ are actually being played. R&B artists don’t like being called ‘rappers’. Therefore, all electronic dance musiQ is NOT called ‘techno’. Reason #4: I would like any and all feedback from you. What do you like, what do you hate? I want to know it all. You are my audience and I would like any input you may have on my work. Hope to hear from you soon. I plan on making dozens of different types of mixes. These mixes will be broken into five different categories: Seasonal, Genre, Hommage, Live Sets & Gannon MusiQ. Seasonal mixes, like my “Trick or Beat” mix will be released around the time of their respective holidays. Genre mixes, such as my progressive mix, will be comprised of only one genre of house music & will be released when I feel inspired to create them & can be dropped at any time. Hommage mixes will be compilations of my favorite Producer/DJs tracks. Live sets are pretty explanatory. My Gannon MusiQ mixes are a no holds barred mix and will be comprised of the tracks I am currently obsessed with and want to share with the world. With all that being said, I’d like to thank you all for listening & encourage you to stay tuned for many many more mixes to come! 🙂 Feel free to sign up for my mailing list, subscribe to my podcast on iTunes or send my page to a friend. One final note, people on my mailing list only get an e-mail when I post a new episode so it will not flood your inbox. [itunes pic]

Grizzly Kiki | Drag Queen Interviews and RuPaul’s Drag Race Recaps

Grizzly Kiki | Drag Queen Interviews and RuPaul’s Drag Race Recaps

    by

    Since May 10, 2018 11:00 UTC

Grizzly Kiki began in April 2014 as a pop culture and drag-centric podcast hosted by Robert Lechuga & Daniel Silva. We launched with recaps of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other reality programming. Shortly after releasing the first few episodes, we narrowed our focus to create a podcast that was unique in concept and would serve a community near and dear to us: DRAG QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The podcast is equal parts oral history and good old-fashioned kiki. We found that there were few platforms where Drag and Nightlife Artists could talk about their art and themselves in an open and honest way. Most of what is known about these artists comes from videos posted on the Internet or what they experience in bars and clubs. It was clear that there were stories to be told and shared with the world. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment, where these artists can share their histories and experiences. Ours is a podcast that is meant to serve the drag and nightlife community by capturing the artists’ voices and making them available to the public. Grizzly Kiki is a program for drag enthusiasts, Drag Artists, and everyone in between. Listen and Join the Party!!
