The $30,000 Bequest and Other Stories by Mark Twain

The $30,000 Bequest and Other Stories by Mark Twain

    by

    Since Nov 23, 2021 00:00 UTC

A collection of comical short stories by renowned American humorist and author Mark Twain, the compilation features 30 stories published in 1906. Presenting a colorful array of tales, the short stories cover various periods of Twain’s writing career, while also allowing him to revise and perfect each story. Exploring various topics including abusive hierarchical power, human recklessness, and backfiring expectations, the collection offers a sweet treat to satisfy every taste. The anthology begins with the story “The $30,000 Bequest” which introduces the married couple Electra and Saladin who live a modest yet comfortable life with their two daughters. Both husband and wife are known to be thrifty with their finances and are regarded by others as good people. However, their lives take an unexpected shift after the couple receives a note from a supposed distant relative informing them of his plans to leave them an inheritance of $30,000 after his death. He additionally adds in the note that they must not tell anyone about the money, its origin, or inquire about his death, for they will find out all necessary information in due course. Thrilled by such news, the couple begins to live in their own world governed by fantasy and choose to leave their mediocre lives behind them as they await their promised wealth. Nevertheless, it appears that they have bitten off more than they can chew, as their lives take a humorous turn, as Twain comically depicts their foolishness and credulousness. A successful satire and subtle critique on human nature and behavior, the short stories are genuinely evocative and full of emotion as they depict everyday characters and situations. Apart from serving as a form of entertainment and inducing a good laugh, The $30,000 Bequest and Other Stories exhibit tales which also provide allegorical depth, encouraging the audience to read between the lines. Reviving Her

    Reviving Her

    by

    Since Dec 28, 2020 07:15 UTC

Welcome to our very first season!! At Reviving Her, we are digging in surrender! We are discussing what surrender looks like in the eyes of our Father and sharing our real-life experiences of surrendering! In each episode, we will peel back the layers of surrendering. We begin by discussing how our first act of surrendering is our act of salvation. Our salvation leads us to our first form of surrender to our Father, which makes us a target for Satan. Then, we discuss what surrendering our control looks like. We all tend to let go of some parts of our hearts and childhood trauma, but then there are those parts that we will not allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us about it. We share how hard it is to let go but then, we discuss the reward we gain if we do. We dig in, surrendering our worry, our idols, and our imposter syndrome. You do not want to miss out on these episodes!! Come join us for our surrender series!

    Decoding Obesity

    by

    Since May 27, 2020 13:15 UTC

The biology of obesity is complex. The traditional practice of cutting calories and increasing expenditure, in all its simplicity, gives the illusion of being the obvious approach. It surely may work in the short term, but usually falters in the long run. As we gain new insights and develop new empirics, we move a step closer to cracking this code. The Decoding Obesity podcast will help you develop a deeper understanding of this disease, develop a healthy relationship with nutrition, promote self-care, and emote a new confidence of ”Yes, I can do it!” Disclaimer: Information provided on this podcast is for educational purposes only and does not constitute/substitute medical advice.
