Design and Sustainability – for iPod/iPhone

Design and Sustainability – for iPod/iPhone

    by

    Since Jul 19, 2009 22:05 UTC

Are you aware of the environmental impacts of the stuff you buy? Is that chair you bought made from wood from a sustainable forest, or was it illegally logged ? Or perhaps your TV set’s inner parts are too difficult to recycle or cause pollution when it’s dismantled at the end of its life. All this adds up to a huge amount of damage to the planet. This album looks at how designers must respond to the increasingly urgent need for sustainability in product design. Designers now need to come up with not only better, more efficient designs, but must also consider the impacts in all stages in the life cycle of a product to minimise negative social and environmental consequences. This album also reveals how new product ideas and inventions are tested before they’re turned into commercially viable products. You may also want to explore the albums “Energy and Sustainability” and “Sustainable Communities”. This material is taken from The Open University Course T307 Innovation: designing for a sustainable future.

    by

    Since Jul 14, 2023 08:45 UTC

Every day, the people of Veolia work hard to deliver essential services across the UK and Ireland – whether that’s by sorting waste to be recycled, treating wastewater to be reused, providing clean energy to customers and communities or supporting all activities from our corporate offices. But with 14,000 resourcers across over 400 sites, it’s hard to keep up with all the amazing things that our people do… That is why we’ve created Veolia’s ‘Our People’ Podcast. In each episode, we’ll sit down with our colleagues, heading into the heart of our business and celebrating the brilliant work they achieve. Through real, open and honest conversations, we’re going behind the scenes to find out what drives our resourcers to do the work they do. So if you want to get to know your colleagues better, make sure to click subscribe.

What are ecosystems, and what do different ecosystems have in common? How are they affected by human activity? From the diverse rainforests of the tropics to the smallest microbial communities, ecosystems support life on Earth. This album reveals the ecological relationships that create these living systems of energy transfer and explores some of the key processes that occur. It goes on to show how these complex systems can be affected by external influences and harmed by the activities of humans. This material forms part of The Open University course S396 Ecosystems.
