Have you ever considered what being conscious actually means? By choosing to live in a particular state are you consenting to be subject to all its laws? For some there’s an assumption that philosophy might not be relevant to modern life but Dr. Nigel Warburton, senior lecturer in Philosophy at The Open University argues that many of us today are faced with philosophical questions such as these as we live our lives in the twenty first century. In this collection we ask academics to discuss these questions in addition to other important philosophical issues and concepts such as the morality of abortions and the reconciling a world with evil and a good God. This material forms part of The Open University course A222 Exploring philosophy.

The Brain Exchange is an Australian made podcast starring the multi-talented and adored Ben and Michael. The podcast focusses on a broad range of topics under the general heading of “Scepticism, Nerd Culture and Humour”. We discuss atheism/scepticism-related content, generally rip into religion, pseudoscience and other such nonsense. As self proclaimed nerds, internet and geek culture are also regular topics of discussion. However, most importantly, we never journey far from a few laughs and a good time.

David Hume: 18th Century Philosopher – Audio

David Hume: 18th Century Philosopher – Audio

    by

    Since Feb 18, 2011 04:56 UTC

2011 is the 300th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest figures in Western Philosophy – David Hume. As well as an economist and historian, Hume was specifically known for his scepticism and empiricism, and was also an important figure in the Scottish Enlightenment period in the 18th century. In this audio collection, The Open University’s Nigel Warburton is joined by A.C. Grayling and other philosophers to discuss Hume’s key theories around the self, induction and his argument against miracles. A good entry point into philosophy and the work of David Hume. This material forms part of The Open University course A222 Exploring philosophy.

The Naked Monk exposes traditional Buddhism to the scrutiny of modern life. Having experienced its traditional forms in depth, we critique it from the inside out, striving to break through the ancient crust of tradition and make plain the Buddha’s intention. http://www.thenakedmonk.com
