Beauty writer and photographer Charisse Kenion presents a series of podcasts that are all about beauty – how it interlinks with wellness, how we’re measured by it, what we choose to spend on it and more. Most importantly, this is beauty, beyond the BS.

This week’s guest is New York-based makeup artist Jonet Williamson. I’ve been a fan of hers for a while now and love her approach to makeup. Watching her apply makeup on her Instagram Lives is often like watching a scientist or perhaps an architect, as she’s clearly viewing her face – her canvas – with an analytical mind.

In this episode I wanted to find out how Jonet’s hometown of New Orleans informed her career choices and set her on the path to artistry – even though she had already decided on studying pre-med.

Jonet shares advice for budding makeup artists trying to hone in on their style and breaks down what a Southern ‘beat face’ really is. She also discusses the differences between makeup in the South and makeup in New York.

Welcome to the podcast Well, That Was… From the shocking to the laughable, the bad b*tch to the sad b*tch, think of it as the weekly catch-up and/or therapy session you never knew you needed. I’m not sure what comes with more plot twists, my thought process or my actual life, but my therapist told me I should try talking things through with myself more often so I thought why not record it and see where it goes.

I sat down with the wonderful Sofia Barriga to discuss all things casual sex, mental health, and being an RA during a COVID lockdown.

Did she take anyone back to the hall after a night out when she was working as an RA? Which of us was seeing an RA of another hall?? Why are sleepovers completely off the table when having casual sex??? Tune in to find out.

Dickinson’s poems are unique for the era in which she wrote; they contain short lines, typically lack titles, and often use slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalization and punctuation. Published in 1912, The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell is one of his most popular books. It renders philosophical issues and questions in a way in which they become relevant and accessible to the man or woman on the street, provoking them to devote time and effort into thinking about these aspects of life. Here, the great philosopher and humanist thinker Bertrand Russell examines the importance of empirical (that which can be verified by observation or experience rather than deduced from logic or reasoning) thinkers like David Hume and George Berkeley the Anglo-Irish philosopher and scientist. Both these men were proponents of empiricism and idealist philosophies. The book also holds great relevance for us in today’s world. Our education systems today focus largely on making us ready for employment. There are very few courses which delve into the inner workings of our minds and help us to engage with the fundamental aspects of our lives. In The Problems of Philosophy, Bertrand Russell presents readers with some of the issues that philosophers have grappled with throughout the ages. He then presents these through his own viewpoints and breaks them down to their core principles. Most Western and Eastern philosophical questions have been centered around the issues of personal and public experiences, identity, the consciousness of self and the awareness of others, time and space relationships and finally the question of knowledge itself. In The Problems of Philosophy, Russell describes in detail one of his most famous theories of knowledge, the distinction between “knowledge by acquaintance and knowledge by description.” He argues that anything which is known through means of a direct causal experience is fundamentally different (and perhaps superior) to knowledge gained through secondhand descriptions and through the reports of other people. In today’s Age of Information, knowledge by description is often mistaken for “true knowledge” and many of us proceed on the premise that such knowledge is indeed the truth. Russell was a philosopher who believed in the dynamism and evolution of thought. He frequently revised his positions on fundamental issues throughout his life, moving from liberalism to socialism. He was also a famous pacifist and prominent anti-war, anti-imperialism activist. Imprisoned for his views on the evils of World War II, he was also an outspoken critic of Hitler and Stalin. He strongly condemned the actions of the United States in the Vietnam War and lent his voice to support nuclear disarmament. The Problems of Philosophy examines the questions that lie deep in the hearts and minds of all human beings and provides a compassionate yet objective attempt at finding the answers to some of them.

Before the team members departed on their journey to Amsterdam Island in the middle of the southern Indian Ocean during a typical Australian BBQ the team shared their project plans, the challenges ahead and the anticipated excitement. On their return all team members fresh off the MV Braveheart shared their experiences before heading home. The team spoke with Onno VK6FLAB on their arrival in Perth before embarking on their 9 day ocean voyage to activate FT5ZM on Amsterdam Island. Interviews were conducted on the 11th and 12th of January and, after returning from the island, on the 23rd of February in Perth, Western Australia (VK6).
