Confronting Hatred: 70 Years after the Holocaust

Confronting Hatred: 70 Years after the Holocaust

    by

    Since Mar 30, 2015 14:00 UTC

This hour-long special brings together a broad range of voices to talk about racism, antisemitism, and the ways in which hatred can grow. Interviews were drawn from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Voices on Antisemitism series. We hear from a former skinhead, an imam, a prosecutor for the Rwandan genocide trials; people speaking from many perspectives, including heavy metal singer David Draiman, filmmaker Errol Morris, and Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Elie Wiesel. The documentary examines the ways in which the Holocaust continues to inform contemporary discussions about hate speech, propaganda, and human rights. We hear people confronting hatred in their lives, their communities, and sometimes in their own hearts.

What we don’t know about American history hurts us all. Teaching Hard History begins with the long legacy of slavery and reaches through Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and the civil rights movement into the present day. Brought to you by Learning for Justice (formerly Teaching Tolerance) and hosted by Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries and Dr. Bethany Jay, Teaching Hard History brings us the lessons we should have learned in school through the voices of scholars and educators. It’s great advice for teachers and good information for everybody.

What are the arguments for and against its various forms? Has it failed? Does it have a future? The Open University’s Nigel Warburton interviews ten leading thinkers about the meaning and implications of multiculturalism. David Edmonds introduces each episode.
