Real Experiences. Real People. Real Stories. Everyone has a story and when they share it with the world it can inspire others in their own journey. When we are courageous enough to share our stories, it can help others become who they were born to be and know they are not alone in this world. This podcast is about shining light on the real struggles and joys of life. It’s important to appreciate all the things we have gone through but also learn as we all move into the future. I have learned a lot of lessons from my own experiences but also from walking with others on their journey.

The Key of Gold: 23 Czech Folk Tales by Unknown

    by

Not your common fairy tales, this collection is a mixture of morals, quirkiness, and sarcasm. In it one finds ironic derivatives (if not roots) of well known fairy tales such as “The Brave Little Taylor” and “Beauty and the Beast,” as well as some more unusual settings to impart the popular fairy tale themes of justice and happily ever after. Most stories are told with wry humor and often shocking irreverence for the expected fairy tale turn out. This is NOT a book for children, but one for adults who love fairy tales, and enjoy making fun of them. DISCLAIMER: Story 09 contains some racially offensive material in its ending. Due to the mission of reading, rather than rewriting, literature in the public domain, it has not been omitted from this anthology. More great books at LoyalBooks.com

    Beowulf by Unknown

    Beowulf by Unknown

    by

    Since Dec 26, 2023 00:00 UTC

Beowulf is a long narrative poem composed in Old English some time in between the 8th and 11th century AD. The only surviving manuscript that contains the poem is preserved in the British Library and it too was badly damaged by fire in 1731. It is considered to be the oldest surviving work of poetry in English and one of the rare pieces of vernacular European literature that has survived since Medieval times. A prince arrives to rid a neighboring country of a terrible monster. He mortally wounds the horrendous creature and it retreats to die in its lair in the remote mountains. The monster’s even more terrifying mother swoops down on the kingdom, prepared to destroy everything in a vengeful frenzy. The valiant prince slays her too and becomes a celebrated hero. Laden with gifts, he returns home to rule his kingdom wisely and well, till suddenly one day, he receives news of a dreadful and powerful dragon attacking the borders of his prosperous kingdom… There is no evidence to show the authorship of the poem and the manuscript reveals that it was hand-written by two different scribes. The poem originally had no title and it began to be called after its hero Beowulf the Prince of Geats in southern Sweden, only in the 19th century. The manuscript was in the possession of a scholar Lawrence Nowell and survives in a very delicate condition after so many centuries of neglect and mishaps. Beowulf recounts the story of the valiant warrior of Geats who comes to the aid of his neighbor, King Hrothgar whose mead hall is being attacked by a dreadful creature called Grendel. The mead hall was the big feasting hall of the king and sometimes even served as a living quarter for the king and his noblemen in medieval times in Scandinavia and the German parts of Europe. The monster is vanquished, but the next night, the warriors are stunned by the arrival of Grendel’s even more loathsome mother, who wreaks havoc on the sleeping victors. Beowulf uses a magical sword to destroy her and returns to his kingdom where he achieves great success and renown as a just and brave ruler. Half a century later, another supernatural creature descends on the peaceful kingdom and Beowulf again takes up arms to ride in to battle. The poem can be seen as actual history, or as a lyrical ode to a brave king. It has had enormous impact on modern-day fantasy writers and continues to be a seminal work of early English literature.

If the Firesign Theatre and Woody Allen had a love child it would be a miracle . . . and probably freakish, but that’s alright. We should learn to accept others for what they are. Even if the very sight of them makes me want to vomit blood. So, in conclusion, I think we’ll all be happier with the Brita Water pitcher over the water-cooler we used to have.

The Meaning of the Glorious Koran by Unknown

    by

    Since Oct 26, 2023 00:00 UTC

The Koran (Qur’an) is regarded by Muslims as the word of God (Allah) as revealed to the prophet Muhammad. It is divided into 114 chapters (surahs), arranged roughly by length. This version, The Meaning of the Glorious Koran, is a widely used English translation of the Koran by a Muslim Englishman. Many Muslims, however, including Pickthall, believe that true translations of the Koran from the original Arabic are impossible, and see translations into other languages only as useful interpretations.

    Children’s Short Works by Unknown

    Children’s Short Works by Unknown

    by

    Since Oct 30, 2020 00:00 UTC

Most parents know and understand the value of children’s stories. Reading aloud to your children becomes an occasion for family warmth and bonding. But quite apart from this, the true importance of introducing children to fiction helps them to make sense of the real world they will have to encounter at some later stage. Stories also give them hope, teach moral values and help them to understand the complex nature of the society that they will ultimately have to live in. Children’s Short Works Vol 001 contains ten delightful traditional tales. Some of them are familiar while a few of them are less known. The first story, The Beauty and The Beast is famous in children’s literature. Originally written in French by the French novelist, Jeanne-Marie Beaumont, the story is a classic fairy story, with elements of suspense, romance, a magical transformation and the final happy ending. First published in the eighteenth century, this is a story that has captured the imagination for generations. It has been widely adapted for stage, screen, television, opera and animation. It has also inspired thousands of adaptations in literature across the world. Other stories in this charming collection include old favorites like Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood and Rumpelstiltskin, which were first published in 1812 as part of Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Another well-loved tale is Aesop’s Fox and the Grapes, retold by La Fontaine. The collection also includes some cute rhymes and verses. Other stories include The Feast of the Lantern by Victorian writer WT Stead and a couple of stories penned by unknown authors. An interesting “cumulative story” The Little Gingerbread Man teaches kids to memorize events. These stories promote an understanding of different cultures and help to create awareness, empathy and understanding of the problems that people encounter in their lives. A treat for both parents and children alike! More great books at LoyalBooks.com

Poems Every Child Should Know by Unknown

Poems Every Child Should Know by Unknown

    by

    Since Aug 25, 2020 00:00 UTC

A treasure trove of more than two hundred poems, this gem of an anthology compiled by Mary E Burt is indeed a most valuable set of poems to read or listen to. Published in 1904, Poems Every Child Should Know contains some well-loved verses like Thomas Gray’s Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, Lewis Carroll’s delightful parody Father William, Felicia Hemans’ deeply-moving Casablanca and other favorites. It also has lesser-known but equally beautiful pieces like Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s The Arrow and The Song, Robert Browning’s The Incident of the French Camp, Eugene Field’s nonsense lyrics Wynken, Blynken and Nod and a host of other wonderful verses. For modern day children, unaccustomed to reading and memorizing poetry, the book is a throwback to the days when this was the norm in most classrooms and homes. Fragments from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, in which Mark Antony pays tribute to the dead Brutus, Polonius’ advice to his son Laertes from Hamlet with the stirring lines, “This above all: to thine own self be true…” are some of the masterpieces contained here. Poems Every Child Should Know also contained some of the most famous poems in English by poets like Wordsworth, Shelley, Keats, Browning and Milton. American poets like Walt Whitman are featured here with their immortal lines in poems like Song of Myself. Another famous American poet found here is Edgar Allan Poe with his iconic The Raven. The book is divided into six parts, with a very interesting and self explanatory preface by the author. She begins with something that readers would say when they first encounter a poetry anthology: “Is this another collection of stupid poems that children cannot use?” and goes on to explain how she selected the ones included here. Most of them were picked because they were short enough for a child to memorize. This is a now forgotten activity that can give hours of pleasure as you recall the lines long after you’ve put away the book. Others were chosen for the heroic and patriotic sentiments, like The Star Spangled Banner, Lord Ullin’s Daughter, The Charge of the Light Brigade, Horatius at the Bridge and a host of other inspiring poems. Mary Elizabeth Burt was a gifted teacher who believed that poetry had the power to inspire, educate and mold young minds so that they could mature into valuable and useful citizens of the country. For modern day readers, this is indeed a delightful collection, which offers endless hours of pleasure as you thumb through rediscovering old favorites, and enjoying new ones.
