In our podcast, we share the stories of other folks who have left campus-based positions in higher education and K-12. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average person holds 12 jobs between the ages of 18 and 50. Educators (like us!) often enter our careers thinking we will stay in education forever – perhaps because we’re trained to think that way, or perhaps it is hard to see other pathways. Both of us found our way out of campus-based positions and are finding it to be very satisfying.

~A story by Anne Buzzelli~ After Persey gives into an angsty instinct, her last summer in high school is spent volunteering in a retirement home. The Christian Working Woman began in 1984 as an outgrowth of a ministry for workplace women that began at The Moody Church in Chicago, Illinois. Because of her own experiences of being a Christian in the marketplace, Mary (Whelchel) Lowman had a burden to encourage women and to teach them sound biblical principles in order to equip them to live godly lives in their workplaces. Little did she know that the radio program which had its humble beginnings on one station in Chicago would now be heard on over 500 stations and crossing international boundaries! Since its beginning The Christian Working Woman has become a non-profit organization currently producing two radio program formats, distributing books and materials, providing web resources, and organizing retreats and conferences in the United States and abroad.

David Hume is one of the great philosophers of the Western intellectual tradition. His philosophical writings earned him lasting fame and renown; his historical writing earned his bread and butter. His “The History of England from the Invasion of Julius Caesar to the Revolution of 1688”, published between 1754 and 1764, was immensely popular and Hume wrote that “the copy-money given me by the booksellers much exceeded any thing formerly known in England; I was become not only independent, but opulent.” The six volume work has had numerous editions and is still in print today. David Hume and Thomas Babington Macaulay have frequently been compared as the premier English historians but we don’t have to choose because Macaulay begins where Hume leaves off. This is Volume 1E which covers the reign of Charles I and the Commonwealth. (Summary by Richard Carpenter)
