Emerald City of Oz, The by BAUM, L. Frank

Emerald City of Oz, The by BAUM, L. Frank

    by

    Since Jan 1, 1970 00:00 UTC

The Emerald City of Oz (1910) was the sixth Oz book written by L. Frank Baum, a title he hoped would be the last. In this book, Dorothy and her impoverished Uncle Henry and Aunt Em are on the brink of losing their Kansas farm. Consequently, Ozma invites them all to live in the Emerald City. They then explore the countryside, visiting a series of strange beings including the Cuttenclips, the Fuddles, the Rigmaroles, the Flutterbudgets, and the residents of Utensia, Bunbury and Bunnybury. Aunt Em and Uncle Henry also meet old friends like the Wizard, the Cowardly Lion and the Hungry Tiger, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, Jack Pumpkinhead and H. M. Wogglebug T. E. The travelers’ idyll is brought short by the plot of an old enemy, the Nome King. Seeking revenge for the loss of his magic belt, the Nome King has an underground tunnel built so he can invade and plunder Oz and enslave its peoples. Our friends manage to defeat the Nome King and his allies, but sobered by this threat, Glinda and Ozma decide to cut off Oz from the outside world forever. Happily for Oz fans, forever lasted only three years. Baum invented a way to reopen communications with Oz and eight more Oz books were published between 1913-1920. (Summary by Judy Bieber)

    Since Sep 6, 2021 18:00 UTC

In this podcast, I ask other artists my favorite question—What do you do for money? I’m curious to know how creative people make things work for them. What is their lifestyle outside of the 9 to 5 working hour frame? How does their “day job” affect their identity as artists, and vice versa? Let’s demystify the concept of working artists by talking about those normal/boring/exciting/absurd/under-the-table/bad-ass day jobs!

In this podcast, you will be listening to things that you have to learn or unlearn in your teenage years as a Christian. Social media has been helpful to everyone, especially the youth. It has taught us how to deal with things that are related to mental, social, physical, and emotional struggles. Those are ways that the world wanted us to believe. But doesn’t the gospel say we do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind?

    Willing To Be Wrong

    Willing To Be Wrong

    by

    Since Feb 25, 2021 08:28 UTC

Fancy being wrong about something? That’s a rhetorical question, of course, you don’t… no one does. The thing is, once the initial discomfort has passed, it’s truly the best way way to grow as a human being. Welcome to Willing To Be Wrong, a podcast with the intention of doing just that. My name is Dr Joshua Wolrich and I’m an NHS surgical doctor, nutrition MSc student, author and accidental influencer. Like all healthcare professionals, I was taught by a system that practises medicine in a weight-normative manner, where a focus on body weight is used to try and define health and wellbeing. After internalising the weight stigma I’d been subject to for years, I left medical school believing that I couldn’t be a good doctor if I were fat, prompting further disordered eating and a damaged relationship with food. After a difficult couple of years of being challenged on my beliefs by people far cleverer than me, I now believe that healthcare has to become weight-inclusive if we’re ever going to change the massive problem of weight stigma and the both direct and indirect harm it does to patients. Join me as I talk to guests about a wide range of topics from the complex nature of weight and health (and why neither should be treated as a personal responsibility), to nutribollocks such as ‘celery juice detoxifies your liver’ and why it’s utter bullshit. The guests aren’t all experts (as that wouldn’t be fun) and the questions are rarely pre-prepared, but true conversations tend not to be. My debut book, Food Isn’t Medicine: Challenge Nutribollocks & Escape The Diet Trap, is now available for pre-order online on Amazon, Book Depository, and elsewhere. For more information, you can find me on social media @drjoshuawolrich.
